I've never owned a Ford where it didn't get a crack in the windshield within the 1st 3 months of ownership. Unfortunately, the Bullitt is no exception. I got a small "ding" at the top of the windshield on the driver's side that has a very tiny crack beginning from it.

I had it repaired so it should spread any further.

Does anyone else think Ford uses/makes cheap glass or do I just have bad luck? I've owned a GM and a Dodge and didn't get even a ding in years of usage.

Actually, factory glass is a better grade, usually manufactured by PPG. Aftermarket glass is usually from Guardian and that stuff is brittle.

We took a hit from a rock on the '97 GT's windshield in Oregon last week and it sounded like the car got hit by a bullet. It only made a little star chip at the bottom, so I think my factory glass did pretty good,............considering.

Same for me - never a crack. In Florida auto insurance must cover 100% replacement cost for cracked windshields. State Farm will replace any window at 100% cost. Check with your insurance carrier before shelling out any $$$.

Thanks for the tip but I'm aware of the insurance stuff. Mine covers all but $100 of a replacement.

I've owned an '87 escort, '96 F-150, '98 F-150, '00 Focus and a '00 Explorer. They ALL got cracks within the first 3 months of use.

My Bullitt was no exception.

I've had 6 Fords, a couple of gm's and a few dodge products. The only cracked windshield i've ever had was in my F250 4x4 when I rolled it!!

I've replaced 2 windshields since I've been driveing, (1965) one in my 67 VW, and one in a 95 Bronco, both had been hit by a stone first, then they cracked farther! My other 9 new FORDS that I've bough, and the BULLITT haven't had any problems! Guess I'm just lucky, which out here were they use sand, and in some places (like Oregon) I swear they use road mix! I do try to avoid that area!

As far as cost to replace, $0, the windshield place took the coupon I had, which was for the deductable!

It appears I got all of *your* stones and cracks!

Like your good luck, it could just be my bad luck.

I am curious as to how many Bullitt owners carry glass coverage (expensive here) on their Bullitt or do they just self-insure, taking a risk. I am considering the glass coverage after hybernation time.

I carry it, which is how I got my winshield repaired for free.

If it needs replacing, there are always shops that will "cover" the cost of the deductable ($200 in my case).

I had a 98 v6 that I ragged the hell out of. No glass damage of any sort... until my dad got a hold of it. heheh.

Now, 5 months into Bullittdom, and I have 5 small chips in my windshield. Funny thing is that they columned. Looks like five drops of rain going straight down. hehe. funny sh*t but annoying!!!

i had a small ship in my glass. i had the defroster on high and it was snowing. i was pulling into the parking lot where i work, i got out closed the door and then i heard this loud shattering noise. my front windsheild shattered from the point where the small ship was. it looks like someone shot the windsheild with a bb gun now. there are about 25 cracks that shot out of the small chip.
it kinda p*ssed me off but there are several places glass comapnies around here that replace windsheilds and waive your 100$ deductible. i am not going to pay a cent for my windsheild replacement. the only problem i am going to have is finding a replacemnet with a dot matrix horse above the rear veiw mirror.

so no, bullittmike you are not the only one with glass problems now. kinda ironic tat we break our windsheilds the same day though.

I agree that the glass seems to be less than durable. My Bullitt is 6 months old and has 3 rock chips in it already. All are extremely small, but very annoying. All were very light hits by something that made very little noise,so must have been small and light weight;it seems that anything can chip this glass. This also happened just as easily ontwo 1994 Cobras that I owned.I have had larger objects that seemed to be alot harder impacts on several other cars and no damage,go figure!
