Okay, for a long time I have thought about doing 3.73's in the Bullitt and getting that upgraded steering wheel and a Tri Ax, but something really irks me about Ford and the Motorsports guys. At the Street Rod Nationals and several other events Ford has showned up with this new "put a Ford in a Ford" theme about Street Rods and such and they have hyped all the Motorsports stuff for Mustangs and the rest at other events. I have been told point blank that they are wanting to be mod friendly and that you will be able to do things like go to an STV dealer and get real Ford rear gears put in with a warranty and it will not void the cars warranty blah blah blah. Problem is the SVT dealers will not do it. They will sell you the gears or the wheel but they will not let their techs put them on. Its funny how my buddy with his SS got a dealer that has one of those perfomance shops to put 3.73's in and none of the Motorsports guys will do it. Out of three SVT dealers all of them would sell me the wheel, none would put it on. I can not wait to see those Motorsports guys at the next event I go to, freaking idiots. I guess I will wait the three years on the warranty to go out and do it myself. I do not want to do anything right now because I for one do not trust the tranny and I still have a ping issue and rough idle with my Bullitt that no one can fix. I have tried all grades of gas, took the car in, and they say nothing is wrong, but I just do not see it that way and I am not taking any chances. I have never been in a late model Mustang or SS or anything that idles like mine at a stop light when its hot, its like a 68 stang with a "hot rod" idle. It would feel good on a 68, I am not sure an 01 should be like that.
Anyone else when the car warms up think it thumps like an old school ride?

Gee nimrod, I thought I made it clear that it was Ford guys saying that they wanted to become mod friendly and that they wanted to get into the performance area...try reading the post before you quip. Your the last person who needs to get smart considering you posted:

"Also, perhaps someone with an automatic transmission Bullitt could report whether or not they have the rattling sound at ~3K. . Seriously, perhaps people with A4 '01 GT's can report whether they ever heard these sounds. "

Gee, try reading the info on your car, they do not come as an auto...read carefully...go back to your video games.

Getting a little personal there aren't you Merc? He was just trying to help. I know Ford can be a pain to work with, but lets not take it out on our own. A simple "you missed my point" would have got the message across. My 2 cents worth take it or leave it your choice. Later

Trying to help would not be a smart alec comment. As for personal, not really, I just have no use for people taking internet cheap shots at my expense. I can dish it right back and it don't bother me one bit. I for one thought he was being a jerk...as for me, everyone knows I am a jerk.

Hey Merc,

If you buy the sh*t from SVT, will a Ford dealer put it on and maintain warranty?

I think GefRacing will. They're a Ford dealer and maybe they can steer you to a dealer close to the house that will fix you up.

I hear your gripe, those clowns at SVT are really being jerks by not wanting to install these items for you. SVT is just another division of Ford, just like Aston-Martin and Jaguar.

We have a dealer in Vegas, "Gaudin Ford" and they sell SVT, Jags and A-M and there guys will install anything you buy from them.

Raise some hell, dude!

Nasty,

Yeah, that is the core of my gripe...they have guys running around saying do your mods with us blah blah and yet none of the dealers will do it. Its a sad day when I hear how Honda is really thinking of getting into mods full blown and Ford is just blowing it. I about died when one guy told me that if a dealer put on a FR500 the air bag might be compromised and Ford will not cover it. What dopes. The other thing that kills me it how much Dallas Mustang wanted for the rear install, I could do the wheel and Tri Ax myself (and I will), but I aint too sure about that rear end on the car. I just know some plastic or something lurks in it that will break if you go old school hot rodder on it....oh I miss the 9 inch days.

Larry(Mus408) just did his himself and I think his only problem was he wasn't satisfied with the shims that came with the kit. He got some others so other than that, he said it was cake.

Get with him for some tips, he knows his sh*t pretty good!

Oh well, to each his own, good luck with the mods. I just cannot seem to bring myself to mod mine yet. Maybe next year or not, I'm just really happy with the way the Bullitt feels. Maybe after the new wears off and I get used to the feel.
Again good luck.

Merc,
If the shifter would get rid of that 1st to 2nd mesh problem I would change it in a minute, but I think that's a tranny issue. Mine isn't as bad as others but the fact that I feel a slight grind bothers me.
What kind of changes did you notice from the mods on 2802? My wife would kill me if I started spending money on mods so soon, but you might plant some ideals in my head for later.

It was just more snappy and quicker into gear with the short throw and it takes a lot of the slop out. You really would like it, I for one was pretty happy with the way mine shifts now but not anymore.

Merc50,
Try calling Prestige Ford in Garland. They might help you in installing the gears (Ford Racing) and also sell them.

I talked to one of the techs there and he mentioned to me it would not void the warranty if it was a Ford Racing product. I am not positive if that is true, but that is what he said. He did say that they will install them.

I hope this helps.

i will say this merc50, the Ford Racing guys made a big deal last year with many of the low end (small mods)and part time racers racers about how they will continue to be "mod friendly" and how they will let Ford Racing developed parts continue to "trickle down" to guys who drive their cars during the week as well as weekend race!
it would be nice to see SVT, Team Mustang, Ford Racing, AND their dealers all be on the same page!!!! (and all understand what the others are doing...AND have the dealers back up what is said by these guys!!!!)

I've run into something similar. When I talked to my dealer about installing 3.73's, he said it would void the warranty. But the head tech said they'd do it, as long as it was an FRP gear set & Ford fluids. Fine, I said, so i set about finding a dealer in my area who could order FRP parts. Well, after calling about a dozen places, only one was willing to order me a ring & pinion & they wouldn't even install it. All the other dealerships said they didn't want to get involved with mods on warrantied vehicles. So now I'm just trying to find a good deal on the parts & I'll take it into my dealer in the spring.
