Hey Guys,

I just got off the phone with the dealership and the Ford Rep now wants to look at the paint on 227. My question to the group is should I be there when the rep looks at the car? My concern is they do not see the problems or hear my side of the story

For those of you that do not know the history of 227, it has been repainted 4 times with a cumlative down time just over 2 months. This includes one week for replacing the Engine. Both the side scoops and C pannels have been repainted, both door jams, and the entire front end.

Now the hood and fender is checking and bubbling and when they put the engine in, the passenger side fender along with both corners of the hood where chipped.

So what do you think. Should I tell the dealership I want to be there when the rep looks at the car?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Bud

Absolutely !!
I for one would want to make sure they get ALL the spots that need to be fixed ! If your not there to point them out who will ?? Not to say they would purposely do a poor job but YOU wash and wax #227 so you should know better than anyone EXACTLY what needs to be done. In fact if it were me I would make sure to wash and wax it before they see it because that's WHEN you notice the MOST ! Never fails to find a new scratch or chip when you spend 4 hours detailing your car (usually just before it rains ) But just my $.02 cents ~ Good Luck getting 227 fixed

Have you checked your state's "Lemon Law" to see what can be done? If you get the state Attorney General on your side you might get things done more effectively...

i would be there.

you might want to write down a list of things you want to discuss before you talk to the rep.

also can you ask about the hp and torque ratings(why the drop off compared to projection ratings).

I agree that you should definitely be present. Be sure to point out the amount of time that you haven't had use of the car but have made payments on it anyway. Figure it out, roughly 25% or more of the time you have owned it, the dealer had it! They owe it to you to make it right once and for all!

Hi Frank,

Not sure I follow your question, but I will try and answer it.

First on the blown head gaskets, not a blown motor. It ran GREAT, except it leaked oil. I only had about 4,700 miles on it at the time. Ford found a problem with some of the Bullitt motors and replaced them. I actually have 7 Bullitt numbers that had the motors replaced.

As far s the paint goes, the car was dirty when I purchased it and by the time I took it home it was dark. Then next day when I was cleaning the car I found that the fender had been repainted and that it was a very poor fix. I found out later that this was done before the car was received by the dealership. The dealership selected a body shop to fix the car and I sent it in. It came back with the same dent still in the fender but had been repainted. The paint was also very dirty. So the dealer apologized like crazy, but the car had to go back again. To make the long story short, it went back three times before it was fixed right. Then the paint pealed under the hood scoop and the color was wrong.

Since the Dealer ship represents Ford Motor Company, it is Fords fault, and most definitely not mine. I spent a lot of money on a car that had a lot of problems. I could have turned it in on the lemon law, but I really like the car. So it went back one last time. Now the paint is bubbling and checking. As someone that has painted cars for many years this is the first sign that it will peal again. Also it has been painted 4 times so the material is too thick now so it needs to be removed.

The REP wants to look at the car because it has gone through the warranty process too many times? At least that was more or less what I was told.

Thanks every one who posted. Tomorrow I will let the dealership know that I want to be there when the REP looks at the car.

Thanks

Bud

Bud,

If I was you, I would be kicking some ass. Ofcourse it's Ford fault. I had #508 in the shop four weeks ago for the death rattle, and ofcourse replaced the whole engine. After I got it home, I realized they had scratched the whole fender up. Now the transmission is acting up. It makes a horrible squeeking sound after it is warmed up, but when I push the clutch back in, It goes away. Not too mention the awefull shifting from first to second when it is cold. I and my family have owned about 12 Ford vehicles over my lifetime, and have never experience this kind of trouble. I drive the car easy, and it still tears up. I am getting information on the Lemon Law, I have already contacted the Better Business Bureau, and my attorney. I am with you when I say go after Ford...

Based on the paint alone, your car is a clear buyback (or replacement) if you want it. Repainting a new car severely devaluates it. It also qualifies as a Lemon case under California law (in the shop for over 30 days (not necessarily consecutive) during the first 18 Months (unless you have over 18,000 miles on the car)).

The latest CA Lemon Law info: http://caag.state.ca.us/consumers/general/lemon.htm .

You hold all the cards. Whatever you want, you'll get. I wouldn't be surprised if the rep offered to buy the car back without you even asking.

Good luck!

Hell, talk with the zone rep and tell him you want a buy back from Ford under the Lemon Law. Would you buy that car if it were repainted? I am sure there are tell tale signs of the repaint. With all your problems, let them take it back.

All I meant is that if the dealer f***ed up your paint job, then it is their fault. If they aren't willing to pay for their own error, then shame on them.
Still, not a good situation for anyone involved.

Sorry-you need to send the car back. Cut a deal with Ford on a "low number' replacment--new Mach 1 or the new Cobra if you can handle the lack of transportation until the new car comes out. They can repaint but you may and probably will have future paint problems.
If you ever sell the car you are going to have to disclose everything-which will scare off most potential buyers--if you 'forget' to tell them and they have problems with the car-they can and probably will come after you and I would suspect they will included a fraud cause of action in their complaint --nd if they get a fraud award you can't file bankruptcy to get out of it.

If you 'have' to have a Bullitt they are out and available in the market place, many with fairly low miles. I know it won't be like buying one and having it as 'new' but you are headed down the wrong road on this one-get out of it while you can on the financial upside.

I would be there with a ton of loaded questions. Most important, stay calm. Get ALL the details, names, dates, time, conversations, suggested fixes, etc... You are completely in the drivers seat here. Since Ford is initiating this they are fully aware of their responsibility, but they will try getting out for the least cost to them. Well, this is what Pontiac TRIED to do with me, HA HA HA shame on GM, they lost BIG TIME. Anyway, don' let them get you ruffled. The LEMON law is meant for this type of fiasco. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It definitley sounds like a lemon law to me. Only problem is what kind of replacement is in order as Bullitt's are out of production? Plus with your low production number how can that be replaced? I would definitley be there with the factory rep and really sound off. Ihave talked to Ford a lot about these cars and they really stand behind them. Get them to do the right thing for you. I think they will.
