well, i finally found my winter "beater". and man oh man will i be catching hell from my friends here in town.
it's a 1985 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Brougham
the prototypical "old man car". it WAS owned by an old man in his late 70's!!! it is in very good shape for it's age and mileage!!
i had it inspected by a mechanic that's a freind of mine and all it needed was a new blower for the heater and 1 new brake line. it has 165,000 miles on it BUT was in VERY good shape. it rides and handles well (for what it is) and it's a big, heavy, front wheel drive car with a V6 engine.
it's exactly what i wanted for winter driving since my Bullitt is(was) my only car!
so now i do not have to stay home in sleet, ice, or snow!
it was $1000.00 plus $185 for the required repairs and state inspection!
a pretty good deal but i'm starting to feel a little cranky and annoyed by all you darned young whippersnappers!!!!

I just picked up my winter beater a week ago. I drove it to work today for the first time. Its a 92 Escort only 89k miles, or so the odometer says. But for $1400 its a pretty good little car. Needs a new stereo and a speaker or two replaced but hell I didnt buy it for show. Thats what P51 is for. And to think I never drove a Ford until I bought my Bullitt and now I have 2 Fords.

Funny you should mention this... My daily driver is a 1970 Chevelle and alternately a 1988 Buick Park Avenue. The Buick was a hand me down from dad and yes it does not quite fit my 28 year old and wife's 23 year old profile, but it is a great car. It has 176,000 miles on it and has seen a steering rack, cam sensor, three alternators, and two water pumps (cheap aftermarket crap). I have learned to replace with AC Delco, cheaper in the long run.
Anyways, I had the car repainted last year because Bambi's older brother(6-pointer) and I had a little "incident." The car suffered a sheared off driver mirror and a dented fender and door, the buck suffered a bit more, considering I was doing about 50 mph. I got the car repainted with urethane and an extra coat of clear and looks brand new. The buck actually did me a favor considering that typical 80s paint job had virtually no clear left.
My point, (sorry I keep deviating), is that yes you might catch some flak about the Geritolmobile, but you know you have the Bullitt, which I am pretty certain, would keep the critics mouths' SHUT!

My beater is year round and it's a HOG!!!! 84 F150 $x$.... Yes the $ signs are correct.... dual tank fill up every 2 weeks about $35-50. New Engine last year $1600.... New paint job $1100....
You can go any where and the niebors are always your best friend, and having a 4X4 with a lift kit are great for checking out the honeys in the car next to you. I really like the 5pd cars the best... It's wonderfull what working a clutch will do to a dress...(I don't stare, sometimes it is hard to keep the tongue in)
So I vote for Big trucks for beaters

it could use a good cleaning and maybe some paint in a year or so but looks like good reliable winter transportation
Jimmy Ray, ...man i was counting on the Olsmobile to be a chick magnet. already had a cute babe in her late 60's checking me out at the grocery store parking lot. i ignored her though cuz i left my bifocals at home!!!!!
