Under hard acceleration, I have been hearing the fuel pump (at least I think its the fuel pump.. the thing in the back ) making a high pitched whine/squeal.

It happened today between 1 - 2 and 2 - 3. My Impala used to do this also, but I never had a problem with it.

Is this normal? I seem to think that under hard acceleration, the pump has to work harder to get the fuel to the Injection system, but it is still a bit unsettling.

You could be hearing the pump. With the dead end fuel rail on the new cars, the ecu will speed up or slow down the pump depending on engine load. Under hard acceleration, I would think you are hearing it being spum faster to meet the fuel demands.

I need to get a copy of the factory repair manuals to see what this new OBDIII system has up it's sleeve.

you should not hear any fuel pump noise unless you ran out of gas and turning the key on to prime the injector. Take it back to dealer and replace the fuel pump.
