Just a reminder for everyone to check your overhead garage door tension springs. These are the springs above the door that assist in elevating it. There should be a safety cable that would keep the spring from flying if it was to snap. Some older doors do not have them and some newer ones do not hold. This can do a lot of damage to your cars or people if it lets loose while they are under it. Mine snapped with such force it tore the cable from the stud and the spring landed between the Bullitt and the Boss. One small scratch on the rocker panel that buffed out. Close call for 4713! If they are old, just replace them. They are cheap!

close call, while letting the tonneau cover on my 01 lightning dry(it was up) after being installed, the garage door was accedently closed and it scratched it pretty bad. it was touched up and you can now hardly tell.

Just had a new garage door installed with a one-piece coil spring above the door. It eliminates the side springs/cables. Also had a new Liftmaster garage door opener installed that uses a rubber serpentine belt so not to damage my cars in case it ever snapped. Am I being overly cautious?

Well if they're old, like mine, then they might be better than you think. My house was built in '46 with a two car garage. We've gone through three openers on the right side, where the Z06 is parked and still have the original opener that came with the house on the left. The Bullitt is on that side. We regret replacing the original on the right, since we've gone through two on that side since. But it never hurts to make sure they're working correctly.

When I was in HS our garage door spring "sprung" right through the garage and living room walls and tore up the wall and carpet.

We built our house 5 years ago. When time for the garage door we elected the option for no springs. After move-in I installed an electric garage door opener.

You are much safer with the torsion springs.
I manufacture the extension springs for several Canadian door manufactures. Last year I made over 50,000 of them. I personally have the extension springs on my doors. (with the saftey cable running through the middle) There is no way anyone should take a chance without the saftey cables. You should see what happens when one of these things breaks. It can damage the car, but imagine if it hits one of your family. Everyone should check their doors.
The installers only rescently started installing saftey cables.
