I was about to swap to the Synchromesh in my transmission and discussed it with my brother who used to be a Ford mechanic. He brought up the issue of whether it would void the transmission warranty should Ford release a TSB. What do you guys think? What about the ones that have already done this. I have the Tri-Ax installed after this past weekend and the Synchromesh was my next step. I asked him how would Ford know? Neither of us have ever seen the stuff, so I don't know if there's a noticeable difference or not.

The fluid that's in there (Mobil 1 ATF, i belive) is red automatic transmission fluid. Syncromesh is more the color and consistancy of motor oil, although noticibly sliperier (did I just make up a word?). Any mechanic will notice the difference. I can't say weather or not it will cause a warranty issue though. I would think not, unless there is a problem and the dealer can link the failure directly to the fluid.

use valvoline synthetic blend it is mercon, dextron III and c4 allison approved. my tranny works great now. no more cold grind or crunch and smooth shifts, but if you listen carefully I hear a light whine. I am so much happier with my tranny. The next time I can my t-fluid, whatever is left of the mobil one t-fluid should be gone along with the whine. at $2.66 a quart it is a bargain. you can change it more often if like. Mercon is ford it should not void the warrenty.......how is the tri-ax? and how much?

Well here is the way I see it. The Camaro Z/28 uses a Tremec trans also, and I believe they use the Synchromesh fluid. Also Ford is not using the Mobil fluid in the 2002 trans. I switched to the GM Synchro fluid, and it shifts much better.

all the 2002 gts use the tremec 3650, with slightly different ratios, there is more angle in the gears for easier downshifting, a beefier 1-2 shift fork with a revised syncro hub to make the 1-2 less notchy. Ford is using mercon v synthetic fluid in the new trannies are told to me by a ford parts rep.

It seems just like most companies, you can't get a straight answer from Tremec on this one either. I talked to some Tremec reps last week at FFW and they told me Tremec did not want synchromesh used in the 3650 :???: I know someone here emailed them about it and they said it would be fine to use it.

I emailed Tremec directly and they stated that each automaker has a "favorite" fluid. They stated that they tested Synchromesh and Texaco Dexron ATF (non-synthetic) and both worked well. They had no comment on any other fluids (I'm using Redline D4 ATF).

From a warranty standpoint, I believe it boils down to what is written in the manual: Mercon spec'd ATF is required (lots of choices available) [Update: checked the manual, it states Mobil 1 Synthetic. I'm checking with the dealer regarding approved oils]. Redline D4 ATF meets Mercon V specs. Some people have reported better results with Synchromesh and Valvoline synthetic (most likely Mercon spec'd as well). If the dealer states a new TSB requires a different Mercon V spec'd oil, I'll let them install it.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'm running Valvoline synthetic oil in #3618 and since that's where I get my oil changed, I was going to let them install the Synchromesh that I was going to pick up at the Chevy dealer. But if you guys think the Valvoline synthetic ATF has just as smooth results and is obviously a lot cheaper than $9.42/qt. then I may just let them do the entire job.

I talked to Tremec at the NMRA in Bradenton this past weekend and got nothing from them in the way of any issues with the 3650, when asked about using syncromesh they replied that it was thicked than the ford recommended fluid and could be a warranty issue. They would not comment on the 1-2 grind or shift fork issue either...
