I am wanting to replace my current shift knob with the Bullitt replacement that George from MGW is manufacturing. My problem is getting the existing knob off. I have tried 3-4 times to twist it off with no sucess. Any suggestions?
Bubba, my knob was on so tight that they actually put a twist in it!!. I ended up removing the top plate(With boot) and removing shift lever from trans. I then put the ball in a vise (protect with wood or alum) and twisted the rod from the ball. Came off with no damage to the ball. Good luck.
I'll give you the same advice that Lok N Lod gave me. get yourself a pair of cheap rubber gloves.. gardening or yellow dishwashing gloves. Put them on and just twist it off. I did that with mine. no matter how hard I pulled, twisted, wrenched it just wouldn't come off.. I bought a pair of decent gloves with a blue rubberized grip and gave one good slow twist and it came off very easy.
Give it a shot.
