I know oil types/changes have generated a lot of questions and I apologize for dups....but, Bulletta was scheduled for her first oil change on 3/2/02 (exactly 5 months from purchase date)...however it fell on a Saturday and I called today to reschedule. I will try to get her in for that the same time she's across the street in the collision repair place.

But, here is my question....She has 1,165 miles on her.....do I go ahead with the first oil change even though her miles are low? And, if I do go ahead with it....what oil? I value your opinions and since I know ZILCH about oils, I really could use the help.

first off, Again I am SOOO sorry to hear about Bulletta, BUT the most important thing really is that you are ok :smile:

I personally run Mobil-1 synthetic, it is a little more expensive up front but you can drive 2x as many miles between oil changes so it kinda evens out (it cost me about 60 bucks if i remember right) but I feel it is WELL worth it in fact I'm due in less than 1200 miles. I had it done at a "jiffy-lube" last time (easier to remember and I have paperwork to back it up for the warranty -- you know with this piston slap and all ) :evil: but I might just do it myself this time ... maybe.....

Dona - I agree w/ Joe Bullitt one the Mobil 1 oil.
If you want to be anal - Do the first oil change @ 1500 miles. Use regular oil for this change.
Do the second change @ 3000 miles and use the Mobil 1.
Once you put the Mobil 1 in, you can change the oil every 6000 miles. That's how I'm doing it w/ my car.

I'm also scheduled for an oil change on March 12th with the Ford dealer. I have close to 8,000 miles. First oil change was at 4,000 miles. If I go with the Mobil Synthetic this time, do I need to supply the Mobil oil and are there any issues with the warranty since this is not what's recommended in the manual?

About the oil, I change my oil every 3 months or 3500 miles, whichever comes first. The dealer does the my oil changes for now and they use 5-20, which is a semi-synthetic oil. I've had 3 oil changes now in 7 months with 3,350 miles on the odometer. It's cheap insurance for your engine.
