A lot of swerving caused ONLY the antennae to hit it, and it bent back far enough to hit windshield or the piece between windshield and side window. It sounded like a large rock hit the car! I was sure that buzzard was gonna be inside car with me! And, amazingly enough, there is no mark where it hit! Equally amazing is that the thing will bend back that far without breaking off! Must be my lucky day... :-B

bull1253,

Nice defensive driving! You are pretty lucky
indeed. I was lucky too when I hit a seagull
doing 120 knots in a Navy helicopter. SPLAT!
Right in front of my face. The windshield
did NOT break...pretty freeeking lucky!

I hit a blackbird once - it hit me right in the helmet, on my Harley.

It practically knocked me backwards off the bike. "Holy crap!", I thought.

Man it was crap right - right all over my helmet!

Birds can be very nasty things to hit. Who'd have though that such a small light animal could cause such a mess.
I once hit a Pheasant at 90 in my '83 Escort. Hit it right at the lip of the hood, tore the poor thing open and it literally exploded on my Windshield. Complete lack of vision.. about 6 seconds later I saw the remains of the carcass come plummeting down. Had to pull over and pull the ol' flannel off to clean up the mess so I could see.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwww..

I can't imagine what it would be like to hit something as big as a buzzard though!

I too hit a bird, didn't catch the breed, just seconds after take off in a C-152. I was a student pilot and had only a few solo take offs at the time. The bird flew through the prop only to flaten it's face on the windshield. It scared the hell out of me at first but after that passed I couldn't stop laughing! I was thinking how unlucky can a bird be, fly through a full throttle prop without getting hit only to then die on the windshield  guess you had to be there.
