I decided to open her up this afternoon and see how fast I dared to go. There's a nice straightaway south of town. I got her up to 130 mph and chickened out. That's my fastest yet. Sure was fun though

I also have gotten up to 130. The back end gets very light and I too backed off!!! I wonder at what speed does the engine gets shut down by the computer?

2001 Mustang GT's, Bullitt's, and Cobra's have NO top speed limiter built in to the computer. A broken in engine will allow the car at least a top speed of 140.

Twice now I've chickened out at 120. No doubt, the rear end starts to feel light. I think I'd be willing to go faster, but there are no TRULY open areas close by where I can feel safe from policemen, and comfortably far from traffic. You come up on people QUICK at those speeds! I think I heard someone here mention that they've seen 140, but I haven't heard any reports of anyone actually seeing where it topped out at.

130 a couple of times now. Both times the car felt solid, a lot more so than my 92 5 oh does at just 100-110.

I've had 171 up over 145 a few times and the car felt rock solid to me. Could be the road you're driving on as well. In a straight line the Bullitt it felt just as solid at 140 as it did at 50. The fastest I've ever been was in my friends '85 Mustang LX 5.0. It was an ex-highway pursuit car for California and we got that baby up over 150. The difference between the 2 cars is that at 120 the LX could be felt to noticably "Squat" and get down to the road. The Bullitt went through no such transition. It just WENT!!.. I can't wait to get this out someplace where I can really open her up safely. The roads I've been on are all farm roads, and while they're usually deserted.. all I need is for farmer Joe to pull his combine out of a feild in a wide turn and let me pile into him at 150.. Eeeeewwwww... that would be a mess.

Top speed for me so far is 148 mph. Just like blakwing said, the car is rock solid going that fast on a straight flat road. I will comment however that on my car I could hear what I presume to be the sound of the vibrations of the stock driveshaft. I plan to take care of that with the aluminum driveshaft that I will install after I return from my trip out here in Germany.

That's what I was worried about, or a cyclist or a deer. They're everywhere around here. #2832 was quite solid at 130. I hope someday to top that.

I have had my 01 cobra upto 147mph with the top down. The 147 was using the digital reading off the display and not the analog speedometer(actually speedometer reading was about 155). My guess is that the Bullitt would be good for a top speed of 147-150 with the stock 3.27 gears.....enjoy your cars, they are awesome:D

Had my 1968 GTO to 160mph, rock solid with the aftermarket suspension keeping things planted.

Had my 1989 5.0 LX Mustang to a top speed of 135mph with the stock 2.73 gears, but made it several times to 145mph with 3.73 gears. Felt pretty solid and safe on an empty 5 lane interstate in the middle of the night.

My 2000 GT coupe starts to feel uneasy over 120mph. It sounds like the lowered stance of the Bullitt pays big dividends at double the national speed limit!

As for traffic fines, I paid $70 and received a negligent driving ticket back in 1985 when I was pulled over doing 102mph in a 55 zone in my Mach 1. In 1994 I paid several hundred and received a reckless driving ticket when I crashed taking a wet freeway ramp at 110mph in my '89 5.0 LX.

Speed ain't cheap; just be sure it doens't cost you your life.

Question for those of you who have obviously spent more time at 100+ mph speeds than I...
Regarding the "lightness" of the rear that a couple of us mentioned, is this a reality or just the way it feels to someone not used to such speeds?
Obviously I know that humping around an exit ramp at 130 mph is probably not going to have a good ending. However, I actually get nervous at normal highway curves if I'm going over about 110, because I get the sensation that the rear is so light, it could just casually drift around on me, and honestly I doubt my ability to bring it back in at those kinds of speeds. What is traction really like at those speeds compared to what it feels like? Please note that I don't plan on spending large amounts of time at 100+ speeds or even 80+ speeds, but if I'm there I'd like to feel a bit more comfortable. My T'bird maxxed at 105 by computer, but damn it felt rock solid there just like I was doing 60mph.

Thanks!
Joe

WOW...thoses are some speeds...I've only made it to 124 due to traffic constrants. If there is no traffic then I worry about hitting a deer. I don't know which would be worse hitting someone who swithed lanes right in front of me or a large deerwalking out in the middle of the road. Ouch !

I had mine up to 110 an hour after I got the car. Don't think it even had a 100 miles on it. Yea Yea Yea I know should have broke it in a little more, but that damn car used the Jedi Mind Trick on me and MADE me do it!
