In case you haven't read about the terrible thing that happened to my Bullitt, I'll fill ya in. Some boozer backed into my car at a gas station, smashing my driver's side door and rear quarter. Well, on the way to pick up my Bullitt my wife rear-ended a guy at a stop light. She drives an '01 GT. I almost cried. I yelled at here to stop, but she was WAY slow getting on the brakes. I was like "You dumb a$$ woman! Uhhh...Are you OK honey?" Well, I had to walk the rest of the way to the body shop, in the rain. I get there and I just grabbed my keys and left. Yesterday I go out to check out the Bullitt, and I am not pleased with the results. The actual body work is ok, but there is overspray all along the top of the door all the way back to the trunk. It looks all pitted. On the side scoop there are small white particles in the paint. Am I being anal, or is this unacceptable? I was expecting my car to look nearly as good as it did before it was smashed. Should I take the car back to the body shop and ask them to please fix it? I would hate to give my car back right away. It was in the shop for over 2 weeks, and I still have to take it to the dealer for the "Service Engine Soon" light. On the plus side, I can't tell you how good it feels to drive my car again!

Anything less than perfection is unacceptable. You paid them money to return your car to it's ORIGINAL condition. Not to some "passable" facimile or even a "Good enough" job.
When you go back to the Body shop bring this up and ask them.. Are they incompetent or lazy? This is a very direct question as it can only be one of the 2.. Either they're too lazy to do a good job or they're incompetant and incapable of doing a good job. Ask the manager, on the spot, which it is.. there are only 2 choices there.
Then go from there. I had to confront a body shop on something very similar when my 91 Escort was in an accident. The man had the Audacity to tell me.. "It's only an Escort". It went badly for them from there. I ended up with getting the entire car repainted so it would match the Fender and to arseure that there was no overspray. It sucks that no one takes pride in their work anymore.

Don't worry about the stuff under the hood for the check engine light. That stuff is made to change out and work perfect... Now the body and paint thats different. Take it back. You will be reminded of it every day. It will not get any better, you will just get used to it not being right. Nobody wants to fight with the mechanics or autobody people and tell them they did a bad job but this will be cheaper than you thinking about every day how you got screwed. I would give them at least a second shot at it. Last resort, find out where the Mercedes and Jags go in your area for body work and take it there.

I had a body shop behind us in NJ that new their stuff, people would flat bed Mercedes and Ferrari's from two states away. They knew how to make it right. You just need to find the right guys.

Thanks for the advice. What sucks about all this is that my father has known the guy who owns the shop for a long time. I talked to the guy a couple times before he "fixed" my car, and he was into Bullitts too. A guy who works in the shop has a cool Stang that was in MM&FF with a paint job done at this shop. So I realy expected a good job. I forgot to mention, I asked him to remove my GT emblems, and guess what, they're still there.

Well like the other advise. Make them do it fifty times if u have to eventually they will get sick of you face! Just be polite when u call them stupid in so many words :smile:My car has been in the body shop twice and guess what its going back again! why because the D A 's got white specks on my rear bumper and somehow managed to even get a glob of clear coat under the decklid ( Go figure when that wasnt even painted! I called them up and told them i knew it wasnt there so I have to take it back again! Thanx Havgun #1676

PS : You know its like David against Goliath but David killed that sucker with a little stone so keep on swingin
