I don't know what happened to it. I went to put my street tires back on and can't find it. How do you go about getting a replacement? I have the original pack it came in with some # on it. Do I go to Ford or the manufacturer of the lock?

#4851 came with a key, but it wasn't the correct one. I went to the Ford dealer and they removed the locks with their master set and are ordering me a new key.

As a side note, they actually wanted me to contact McGuard directly and order it through them. I told them it was their mistake (the lot/prep guy didn't check the key/locks) so they can take care of it for me. This is my first service experience with this dealer... Am I doomed forever???

BTW, I did ask them about the transmission crunch and they said they hadn't heard anything, but if my car starts doing it they will fix/replace the trans. I may just make an appointment while it's still cold and acting up to have it taken care of. [/tangent]

My two cents: remove the "security lugs" altogether and file for posterity in the toolbox unless you live in a high-crime area. Anyone with a universal security lug socket (they have left-hand internal threads that engage the OD of the security lug) will have them off in no time. The sad and ugly truth is that if someone wants your wheels, they will most likely get them. The security lugs are nothing more than a deterrent.

Another thing to consider: my brother has a '97 GT and had a flat last summer. He went to remove his security lug with the keyed socket and the profile that engages the lug sheared off! Turns out there was just enough corrosion between the aluminum wheel and steel lug (dissimilar metals do this, you see) that it was essentially frozen to the wheel and it was a major ordeal. I'll spare you the rest, although it was colorful. I went to remove mine on #570 to replace with regular lugs and they were a little sticky too.....

The bad thing about taking it to the dealer is....it has drag radials on it  I would like to avoid that if possible. I still have a thing from McGuard with the numbers on it, I think I'll call them.

Call McGuard, they can get you a lock based on your numbers. At least that used to be the case;-)...

Good luck.
