Ca. I-10W at the Cherry Valley exit, about 1:50 a.m. just off of work with the cruise on at 70mph and he stumbles upon me. The red Lightning pulls up on my left (in the fast lane). Both our windows being tinted I can't see him. Only two shadows...he has a passenger. I was just wondering what his intentions were when I heard him punch it. I quickly went to 3rd and to the slow lane which was clear (an awkward shift, 5th to 3rd). I stayed on it until fourth at about 115mph and realized he wasn't with me. He had stayed in his lane and instead of dodging traffic, slowed down. So I slowed down and waited for him to re-approach. This time on my right, with traffic behind us. I put my passanger window down and alas, his window was down. Young guy, he yelled "slow down". So I did, to about 65mph and took her into 4th gear to set up a fast shift to 3rd. When I did so, he punched it. I was looking right at him, and saw the front of the truck lift up, what a sight! I took # 797 to 3rd and nailed it. I could hear his truck through my open window, we were dead even when slowly I started to pull him. I had to switch to the left lane to pass a car. Looking over at him once again, I could see him and he looked I would imagine like I did, analyzing what was happening. I didn't want to mess up my shift to fourth and payed close attention to the tach, redlined 3rd and made my fastest 4th gear ever. He was falling slowly behind and I had about 3-4 car lengths on him and decided to shut her down at 130mph and took the right lane back. He followed suit and I was hoping he would pull along side, he didn't. I had passed my offramp and switched to his lane in front of him to get off the freeway hoping he would follow. He didn't so I flashed my hazards and wished him farewell.
I had a full tank of gas and my only mod is the Densecharger. I am sure if it was from a dead stop, it would have been the other way around as the Lightning is a quarter mile beast. VERY fast truck and I was suprised I took him. Two great Fords!

Cool! Was it a new one, the one with the ricer looking tail lights?

Is your BULLITT all stock, any mods?

Maybe I'm off my rocker, but I don't think I'd want to spin a pickup truck much over 100-110 MPH. It just seems like it would have the aerodynamics of a brick. You'd need alot of excessive power to push that volume of air at higher and higher speeds. Even a cross wind can send you for a thrill at 70 MPH.

There has to be some advantage to the Bullitt's streamlining at those speeds.

Cool tale.

It was a newer Lightning but didn't see the tail lights. Aerodynamics definitely played a factor. The densecharger is my only mod.

I miss my Bullitt, but I stil have my husband's number 702 to drive as soon as the weather gets nice. I traded 1880 for a 2000 Lightning truck after it out-ran my Bullitt. As far as max speed, I have only had the lightning up to 115. I let my boss who is from Brazil in south america drive it. I fastened my seatbelt thank goodness. Before we ran out of straight deserted road he had us up to 122. Handled great, but a little scary when someone else is doing the driving. BUT I STILL LOVE THE BULLITT. I hope to one day buy my husband a 350 Shelby GT. Think he will like it. I purchased his Bullitt for his birthday last year.
