That is strange,as some dyno test have shown about 1-3 HP gain on other Stangs. But then who knows!

I put a K & N air filter on my BULLITT when i had it dynoed i did'nt even gain 1 hp. So if some of you Guys/Girls go out and buy a K & N air filter thinking this is a MOD it's NOT. I read alot of sig that list it as a MOD (not just on this site) all over the net. I think the K & N is a GREAT air filter and is well worth the money. But it ain't no MOD.

Hi Ray,
I put a Holly on mine (same as K&N They actually claim 10% better than K&N) I did not change it so much for increased HP comparing new paper to new K&N, but instead what the numbers show for a dirty K&N filter compared to mildly dirty paper.
Living here in AZ the amount of dust is unbeliveable. So with both filters being new I don't expect much but if we were to compare a paper with 10,000 miles and a K&N with 10,000 is where I am hoping that I am making it worth the expense.

Yes your right but most dyno pulls have a 1 to 3 hp differance anyway. I'm just saying the K & N should not qualify as a MOD.

I agree Ray. Not a mod, but probably a decent investment for the durability. The paper filter doesn't flow THAT bad to make a real difference; its really temperature that is a significant variable. The engine only needs so much flow to run efficient. But cold is always better :grin:

If you make any change from stock it is a mod. Even if you put a rear spoiler (uuhgggg) on it, it is a mod.

I have never liked the K/N stuff simply because I have had problems with it in the past. I won't re-hash on old articles, postings, etc. but I did a fairly decent test a few years back when I had a 95 LT-1 Z28. Safe to say, the stock paper one does just fine for me. After a couple of months of running your K/N, check your intake tube (after the filter) to see if it is clean. If it is, you are ok. If it isn't, well.....you will probably not a thin layer of fine dust coating the inside of the tube. You have had a whole lot of small particles getting into your engine.
A company called Outerwears (http://www.outerwearsracing.com) makes a thin pre-filter that slips over the stock filter to prevent a lot of that stuff from getting by the K/N. I had this on my 99 Lightning and it seemed to be working well. Could be just some simple insurance IMHO.
Just check it to be safe, that is all I am saying. (I am not affiliated with the company posted above...just passing on some info for us Bullittheads!)

Thanks PBGas that's GREAT inf.
From looking at the KN setup on my carbed 85 LX, I notice that after a while the red color,filter oil,seems to fade out. I assume the oil is evaporating. I re-oil mine when it looks that way. The oil film is what attracts and checks the small dust.
