My son and I are contemplating doing this trip.....if so would join the Chicago group in Joliet or near there and continue on to Arizona...would then break off to visit the Grand Canyon....

Correct, plan to meet up with the group at the hotel. Still planning my itinerary going East before arriving in Tucumcari. Maybe Monument Valley or Fourcorners. Perhaps visit some rt 66 places that the Legends Tour might pass thru driving to Las Vegas. This will be my inaugural RT 66 roadtrip.:hyper:
