From what I have read nobody knows if the Mach 1 will be a limited or regular edition-The Mustang does need a model between the GT and the S/C Cobra. There is even talk of a resurected Boss 302 when the Mustang is redesigned.

Two major points will control this one-so nobody has the answer yet. First - when is the mustang 'change' going to take place. The 'new' mustang was due out in 2004. Looks like it is being pushed back to 2005. This forces another year in the current platform. So with the Mach 1 being produced for 2003 what will Ford do for 2004 to keep interest up--they promised everyone that the Bullitt was a one year only car-they will not make that promise for the Mach 1-they will keep the second year open-provided the Mach 1 sells well (it will).

The other issue deals with the Cobra. At 37-40k will it sell??? With 3.55 rearend will it eat too much gas--with CAFE restrictions and not enough Focus car sales Ford may have a fleet mileage problem and this could potentially force a cut back on SC Cobras to the traditonal 320 hp Cobra and goodbye Mach 1.

So it is a wait and see-if the SC Cobra sells well and demand stays up and Ford sells a good number of Foucs (Focui?) to satisfy their fleet mileage restrictions then I would assume that the Mach 1 would go a second year.

Maybe the 5.0 version of the mod motor will come out in 4V form to replace the S/C 4.6,in the Cobra,in 2004!! No telling what Ford's plans are? Maybe they will move away from Overhead cam engines all together. That setup still makes for a heavier and more complex engine.......Heads make the power, regardless where the cam lies!!
