I have the 255/40/17 Nitto NT 555's on the car. From the side, there looks to be less rubber, but they get meaty once you eyeball them. I'll get a pic up before long.

------------------------------------------
If I can't get this nail hole fixed (it's near the shoulder) I'll get 4 tires.

I'm going to buy from Discount Tire and I've searched there inventory.

I need help with some of these tires. Are they good? Are they shunned by the Mustang community as crud?

BFG GForce TA KDWS (stock size)
$139 each.
I like these best. 400 treadwear is high.

The site says I can fit
Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 with 275/40 tires.
These are $151. I'd like to get a wider tire.
TW of 280 doesn't thrill me.
They also have the tire in stock size. Maybe a 245 front, 275 rear?

Nitto NT 555 Extreme
255/40 for $137 each.
wider tire, TW of 300
I thought Nitto was more of a 'Honda' tire.

Dumlop SP Sport 5000
$149, TW of 340, stock sized
I used these on a sedan and they got abused, never showed any wear.
These may be 2nd place.

NFG GForce KDW (hi perf)
$166, TW=300, stock sized.
A bit much, but I could use these for road course event.

The mud/snow BFG KDWS look like a bargain- harder compound and a performance carcass.

But- I'd like a little more rubber for the rear.

Any suggestions? I go tomorrow morning to see if I'll have to buy tires.

btw- the Bullitt looks like hell with the spare on.

WHEN I PUT BULLITT/GT WHEELS ON MY WIFES V6 I PUT MAXXIS TIRES ON THEM. THEY WERE 245/45/17 MA-? SOMETHING THEY HANDLE GREAT!! IF THE BULLITT EVER NEEDS TIRES (720 MILES) I WOULD PUT THE MAXXIS ON IT. THEY WERE ONLY $100-$110 EACH. AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WORK OUR TIRE BALANCER READS ROAD FORCE AND THE MAXXIS TIRES WERE BETWEEN 3&7 LBS. BETTER THAN ANY GOODYEAR WE HAVE EVER MONTED AS FAR AS ROAD FORCE GOES ANYTHING UNDER 28LBS IS EXCEPTED THEY ONLY OTHER THING I CAN ADVISE ON IS I DONT THINK YOU CAN GO WRONG WITH BFG'S OR KUMHO. GOOD LUCK SHOPPING

Does Discount Tire sell Bridgestone Potenza RE730's? These tires come highly recommended from my friend who ruins a Mustang performance shop. Based on Bridgestone Formula 1 rain tire. I had Bridgestone Pontenze RE70's(these have been replaced by the RE730's) on my last Mustang GT and they were great tires. Dry peformance was better than the Goodyear's and wet performance was almost as good as the dry. I don't know about treadwear ratings. The only complaint I've heard about the tire is that it is noisy, but I don't know what tire it's being compared to when they are making that judgement. Price is reasonable on these tires as well.

It's terminal. They can't repair the damage as it's too close to the shoulder.

I have a used tire on it to relieve the spare.

So, I have about a month barring another NAIL. The BFG KDWS is the front runner. The upsized Nittos might be second depending on what the local shop has.

A treadwear rating of 280 is not bad for a high performance tire. I had Michelin Pilot MXX3's (not on the Bullitt) with a treadwear rating 140 (got about 11,000 miles), and switched to Kumho 712s, and was quite pleased with the noise reduction, better ride, and better wet traction. The MXX3's did handle better, but for street driving the Kumho's are excellent. Another issue is tire weight. The MXX3's were (and may still be) the lightest tire you could (can?) get. Also compare tire weight and noise (you'll need to call TireRack, Discount, etc. to get the weights). I also really like the Bridgestone Pole Position's (Treadwear 220). In general, higher treadwear equals less grip... That's why I like the Kumho's: around $100, decent handling, decent treadwear, quiet enough, and look good.
