The other night I had to make a late night run to the store for milk. Of course, I take the Bullitt.
On the way home, I was doing the speed limit when somebody runs right up on me.
I cannot make out the car, but when I look at the headlights, it appears to be an 87-93 mustang. Hoping to get a quick run here, I drop it in to third and floor it, get it up to about 60, he lags behind, and I let up(the speed limit is 35), but eventually, he catches up to me, and again rides my bumper. I was puzzled by his response. By this time, I was approaching my turn. The intersection was well lit by streetlights. I make my right hand turn, check my review mirror, and it was cop car! I think a crown vic! But he didn’t turn with me and just continued straight. I would’ve put money on it, that that car was mustang! This town is notorious for giving out speeding tickets for only going 5 miles over the speed limit. What's up with that? Maybe he/she had to go to the bathroom?

You know the funny thing is that he/she might have thought you were a cop off duty. I've heard stories of cops messing with their fellow cops when it seems to be something obvious like this. Granted it's not to smart, but it happens. That would have been the most expensive milk ever.

Well you got lucky. Yesterday I was on my way to a meeting and I was driving without paying attention to my speed. I came up over a hill and saw some police officers on the road. I thought that it was an accident and that they were directing traffic, but no, they were flagging down people and writing tickets. Apparently they had an officer on the hill clocking and a slew of them writing tickets. So I got flagged down, along with 3 other cars, and got a 60 in a 40 ticket. There goes my mod money.

Hey Fast, are you in Georgia, or Arkansas? I think you said you were relocating back to Atlanta, but not sure. Just wondered because of your statement about tickets for 5 over. I know several Georgia cops, and they all told me there is an unwritten law that they don't ticket unless you are 10 or more over. Some may not follow that, but I've run thru radar numerous times at 9 over, and haven't been stopped yet, knock on wood.

Hey MOLJAY,

I moved here from the Atlanta area (Canton).
The town I live in, is Conway, AR.
The local Conway Police deparment are the ones who give out tickets for 5 over.
Nothing like Georgia State Patrol.
BTW, I also hard that Ga has a 10 MPH over the speed limit tolerance. But sometimes, I think it more like 20. I've never been pulled over in Georgia for less than 20.

I was in my '67 Fastback and the same thing kinda happened to me!

I was on my way home from the store when a car with a headlight out pulled up behind me right on my reat bumper.

It was dark, so I thought it was just some moron...the shape of the headlight made me think it was an older Crown Vic.

I gunned my 302 and roared off...until the Rockdale Co. in one of their older police cars with a headlight out bloops his lights at me.

As I pulled into my neighborhood and prepared for the grief I was expecting to get...he turned his (blue) lights off and just kept on going.

Weird.

the 5 over ticket, only the state police in GA can right a tickett for going less than 11 over( by means of radar or lidar) unless in a construcion zone or a scool zone. so yes you can get a ticket for doing say 5-10 over but it is not a speed varified by radr it would have to be by pacing or the stop watch meathod if it was not a state trooper.
