My friend and i decided to race this last Thursday. He was in his Porshe 911-year 2001. He claims he did some exhaust work on it but i don't know... anyway... I thought he was going to give me a fair race except he didn't let us start the race side by side. You see we started on a one lane street that went into a high way. And he was ahead to begin so obviosuly i woulnd't be able to get in front. I was hoping he would wait till we hit the high way and start once we were side by side. Anyway it was crazy. There was so much traffic and we were cutting through cars like we were on an arcade game. Its like we didn't care about our real lives at all. We were cutting from lane one to three and from lane three to one. Average speed of this race was probably like 65 mph or so. At some point we swerved by this Vette zo6 except he didn't play with us... i guess he was with his gf or something. Anyway to make a long stody short i never got infront of him but i was on his tale most of the time. And at some points i would loose him because his car would fit between the cars and mine woulnd't becasue his 911 is much shorter than the bullitt. But at the end of the race we both took this really sharp turn and i guess he braked a little too late and both his left tires went on top of this really small curb and his rims got scratched. He then wanted to race again but when he went forward we heard some noise coming from the front wheel on the left side. So i drove with him to the dealer and dropped it off. I can't wait till he gets it back.

IMO, not very smart if the traffic was that bad. Endangering others for the sake of a chase.

That was just about the most irresponsible thing I have read on this site.

Geez, find a track somewhere to do that kind of thing.

As irresponsible as it is, I have to admit, I love driving like that. It is such an adrenalin rush. Drag strip appears to be fun also, haven’t done it yet, but I don’t think I could get same rush. I think growing up and learning to drive in the Atlanta metro area made me this way. I don’t do it a lot (I think only twice in the last two years) and as I get older, I’m doing even less. Living in AR I’m sure has something to do with it also. Here in Arkansas, I rarely, if ever at all, even get challenged. But in Georgia, it’s different story!

Anybody remember the chase scene in “Against All Odds?” I never drove that crazy, but then again, I never had the cars they were driving!

Go ahead and weave, I'm used to it here in Cali, but if your Bullitt is 'too long' to fit in the space that the 911 does fit in, that's really close! The difference in length is only about a foot and a half. Be careful...someone's gonna get pi$$ed at you and hunt you down.

Hey, if he doesn't care about the metal-mashing sound, your 911 buddy could have his own Bullitt for what it will cost to repair the Porsche.

I'm willing to bet that a Bullitt gets more looks than a 911 these days.

Hey Antabi, its a real rush buzzing through traffic like that, but remember that there are other people all around. One wrong move by you or your friend and someone's mother, father, son or daughter could be dead. Pretty stupid, huh? Do us all a favor, take it to the road course for that stuff.

i used to like playing in traffic until one day it happened.

while chasing a trans am in my rx7 i had an accident.

the trans was in front and i was one car link behind him when he pulled from the far left lane to the off ramp and i pulled under a 1981 caprice doing 60 and the caprice was stopped.

much more conservative now.

antabi,
Please, save the racing for the strip or track. Our highways are not the place to race.

Quite a mixed reaction from everyone. The only thing I have to say is the Bullitt is a limited production car that seems to have an attraction to the scrap heap. I also am totally against putting innocent people in harms way. This kind of driving on public highways could cost you your license, your car, you or another persons life, and possibly some jail time....... Is it worth it????????

Drive up to Miami Okla. and we can run out to the dragstrip nearby and see how things fare between our cars. Have your friend bring the Porsche as well, lots of good running cars come to this track, and all run in a safe enviroment.....If you hit the wall it is your paint only, and not someone elses. The walls are fixed and not capable of moving from one lane to another as a passenger car filled with a family might be.

Read my older post mooving out too fast. I still dont have a drivers liscense or tags for my car not to mention the $$$ and the 10 days in the county that I still have to do. I was on an old country road with no traffic. Dont get me wrong I love to race but its not worth the trouble. I'm just glad no one got hurt. I almost slamed the roadblock.

Guys guys guys... Calm down. I know you are all right. But when someone dares me then i am not going to backdown or off that easily. Its not like i have races like that one all the time. Some races i do i don't even hit 50mph. Cause we get stopped but the next light. I know it was crazy and all. I try many times to avoid the idiots who rev their engines next to mine. But sometimes its just too hard to resist. Thanks for everyone's concers. I'll try to keep it till 5 over the speed limit.
