I have the1-2 shift crunch when cold.
Had the fork replaced, didn't help.
Had the synchro replaced, didn't help.
Added Redline D4ATF (didn't tell dealer), didn't help.
After calling Ford and the dealership, they asked if I'd like a new tranny. I told them that I was afraid that the same thing would keep happening, since this problem is common in these trannys. I then told them that I'd like to replace it but I want to wait till the end of my warranty. He said it wouldn't be a problem.
I figure that this way Tremec might have fixed the problem with the trannys by then, and I'll have a new tranny @ about 30k miles.

Great idea. I could have done the same if the rebuilt tranmission wasn't leaking: I have to go for the new transmission now. At least one other person on this BBS got a new transmission and it works perfectly. I don't know if I'll have this car after the extended warranty expires... Did you get Ford's offer in writing? It's easier to get things fixed now rather than later.

It has come to my attention that the 1-2 collar has "multiple cone" sychronizers and that these are the culprit for the crunchiness; you're feeling two sychros acting instead of one, and the engaging of the dog teeth.

The other collars only have one synchronizer.

Email Tremec.

This is thier website.

http://www.ttcautomotive.com/

Go to "Products", then contact them via email and ask them about the crunchiness and the multiple cone synchros.

This is what i did, it's the explanation they gave me. They also said the the multiple cone synchros are worse when cold.

Thanks for the info fixer.

Ask Tremec what causes clunk (fixed with tranny rebuild), 2-1 downshift crunch / difficulity engaging 1st (when hot), and why some 3650's never crunch in any gear, cold or hot. Whatever that variance is, it is the key to the problem (and the solution).

I'd like one of the non-crunchers please.

Hey FTOS,

Had to look up LMAOF (LMAO). Guess I'm gettin' rusty on my internet acronym grammer (wasn't well lubed to begin with  ).

Found Internet Acronyms at:

http://home3.inet.tele.dk/hgaarde/Acronyms.html

So:

YABSA, WIBAMU (because I have a neice who I call monkey), new users on this BBS should TYCLO, when I hear something I am ROTFLHOLCDF, my computer PENTIUM, and of course ILTNMMAMOTCHYCFAPMSFTJ.

Indeed it seems as though Tremec transmissions are ordered similar to KFC: Original Recipe or Extra Crunchy.

Seriously though, i've not seen or heard of any tremec equipped stang that doesn't have the 1-2 shift concern.

My trans is so inconsistent; it goes from ultra smooth to alarmingly cruncy/notchy.

It is worse when cold but even when warm i'll get the 1-2 crunch once in a great while.

I'll be concerned when i start actually grinding.

Hey fixer,

Yeah, there does seem to be some KFC style build variance. shayesky (on this BBS) stated that his replacement transmission does not clunk, grind or whine. Sounds good to me: I want one of those.

#2580 is getting rebuilt right now at the dealer.

If it leaks, crunches, or clunks at all, I won't take it, they can just keep it until they put a new trans in.
