On a happier note, did you guys watch any of the Rolex 24 at Daytona?
Amazing to see two cars race each other for 24 hours and finish less than one second apart.
Since my wife set up a Peacock account, I could pop in for updates at any time. Coverage was actually pretty decent!

Hot off the press!

This one is so new it's still in the packaging! If you think Toni and Josh Turner are "so-so" guitarists, think again. On that double solo at the end of the song, if you close your eyes you'll swear you're listening to Don Felder and Joe Walsh! Outstanding job by all!

I followed bits of it...Penske still has some work to do to make the Porsche reliable...but I'll never say to bet against Penske. The solace for Porsche fans was that Ferrari fans also suffered disappointment. Too bad Ford pulled out of endurance racing.

Now that the niners are out of it, hard for me to get excited about the superbowl. Probably because it's hard for me to get excited about the "woke" NFL in the first place. Cindy, however, is a rabid Chiefs fan. This because in a previous life during the era of Hank Stram, Lenny Dawson, and Stenerude (sp?), the first soccer style kicker, she lived in Kansas city.

So, I really only watched the last two minutes..missed the entire 2nd half because of her noises while watching the game. She terrified that her beloved Chiefs might lose. Instead of the game, I found a pool match I hadn't seen. Almost 2 hours of play between two very tired top players who had each played 5 other matches before this one at the 2023 Derby City Classic. Yep, almost 2 hours...with no breaks in the action trying to sell me a car, fast food, or insurance. It was heaven. Yep, both players making mistakes...because they'd already been playing other matches for 14 or more hours. Pool tournaments are marathon endurance sports for the top players. Several 14-16 hour long days as they eliminate other players from the field. Of course, the better player wins...as expected.

Yes...tons of Guitar talent surrounding Reina. Why haven't they made it to superstar status? Because in today's music scene, talent takes 2nd place to...

Joseph Ossai (58) for the Bengals blew any chance by shoving Mahomes to the turf out of bounds. Had he not done that, the Chiefs would've had to try an impossibly long field goal and the game would likely have gone to overtime. He made a stupid mistake, but you had to feel bad for the young lad afterwards on the bench, sobbing. But, like you said Don, it is what it is! And it was what it was. And it will be what it always will be --- a loss. I know the feeling well.

And I'm okay, Paul. Nothing that knocking my head against the wall about a dozen times won't cure.
What I noticed on that play was how fast , and with no hint of an ankle injury, number 15 ran. I also noticed earlier in the game that he would make a play, then limp back to the sideline or the huddle. Hmm........shades of one Jim Brown, who would look like he couldn't run another yard after some plays and then come back a play later and run over 4 or 5 guys on his way to a big gainer, often a TD. Mr Brown, in my opinion the greatest running back of all time, after just a nine year career.

It was obvious that after that guy rolled up on Mahome's ankle, he was in a lot of pain. Then the game got hot and his adrelaline level shot to the moon and stunted the pain. But, just walking slowly off the field the adreline level dropped and he felt pain again. That's my diagnosis. Just call me Dr. Jimbob.

No doubt the Jim Brown was the G.O.A.T., when it comes to running backs. Our Browns have a running back that's a handful --- one Mr. Nick Chubb. He's well on his way to breaking a few records himself. He's a hunk. I've seen him drag 3 tacklers on his back to get an extra 5 yards!

Paul, what will you do if you get to Heaven and find out there are no pool tables? :ROFLMAO:

That would make heaven hell! Forget whether it was in Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn that Mark Twain had one of the characters speculate about a departed in heaven...surmising that the departed wouldn't be happy wearing wings and strumming a harp.

There's a well known gravesite out there..the plaque reading "Rack 'em St. Peter. I already beat everybody on earth." Of course, that would be the guy who called himself Minnesota Fats.

(edit) Whoops...I didn't quote accurately. Here's a pic along with more..

Watched Chubb throughout his career at Georgia, and he was a load then with breakaway speed.

Long Live Fats!

Minnesota Fats (Rudolph Wonderone) grew up in New York City and spent much of his time in pool halls, where he became quite proficient at the game. When the Depression hit, Fats used hustling as a way to make money. He was quite a character and would spook his opponents into making bad shots by spouting off with goofy comments.

He began using the name "Minnesota" Fats after the release of the Paul Newman/Jackie Gleason movie "The Hustler." Fats managed to run his mouth enough to force a game between himself and legendary pool expert Willie Mosconi, in 1978. ABC Wide World of Sports snapped up on it and broadcast it as a heavily hyped event. It was even hosted by none other than Howard Cosell. Of course, in the end, skill trumped bravado, with Willie winning the match in the first three sets: Nine Ball (5-3), Eight Ball (5-2) and Rotation (5-2). Willie stayed quiet and ignored the blabber of Fats, but the one time he did answer was a mike-drop moment: "Fats, you've never even been to Minnesota!" But Fats was happy for the publicity.

"Most of the people who appear in this video are long past. The young people, if still alive, are now very old - the children in their 70's. What lives did they live? Were they happy? Were they successful? Did they achieve what they wanted out of life? I don't know - but just watching these scenes from the past makes me contemplate my own life, and appreciate the time I have left. Thanks for watching - and best wishes for your future years!" ---The History Lounge

Cool video, Jimbob...and look! No homeless tents! Still alive...yep. Happy? Mostly, once I escaped High screwall. Successful? Depends on how you want to measure it, I guess. Achieve what I wanted? Well, back in high school, all I wanted was a girlfriend and a nice car...;).

Feeling old? Yeah...just had a reminder of that by reading an article that Boeing has made it's final 747. When we were 50's kids, the airliners still used propellers.

And no burning buildings, no needles on sidewalks, statues of former presidents and war heroes abounded, woke meant that you had gotten out of bed. Yeah, times were certainly different back then, and all those folks would look at today and be astounded at what has happened to their country.

Sad to think that there will likely be upwards of 5-million new tents (a few will actually get jobs and support themselves). Sad to think the country will likely be printing still more money and inflation will continue unabated. But most of all, it's sad to think of what this country once was and what it has become. But hey, we've got to keep thinking positive!

Well, I'm positive that I don't like what's happening to our country and the world, and I'm positive that there will be a day of reckoning, I'm just not sure it will come in time for me to see it from my current location. 😉

Wayne, not to be judgemental, but I think there's a chance you could be borderline "doomsayer." All I'm saying is there is good out there. Sometimes you've got to look for it, but it's out there. As for me, I'm going to keep on trying to be as positive as possible. I want to die with a smile on my face. Not like my dad, rest his soul, who had the awfulest frown I've ever seen the day of visitation. But I think I know why.

After he'd come inside after being out on a hot day clearing weeds with a gas-powered wacker, he had called my brother, who lived a few miles away, and gotten bro's message machine. His last words were, "Charles, you'd better get over here right away. I'm not doing too well at all." Then he'd gone into the living room and sat down in the easy chair. Charles had stopped on his way home from work at a hobby shop (he was always big into free-flight model airplanes). When he got home and heard the message, he rushed over, only to find dad dead, with that deep look of disgust frozen on his face. Why dad didn't call 9-1-1 was no doubt because he didn't want to create a "spectacle." Hence, the call to my brother.

Jimbob, I couldn't agree with you more, their certainly is goodness out there, and you really don't have to look far for it if you travel in the right circles. My three children and their families are wonderful examples of living life within God's plan and trying to make the world a better place, and they bring me great joy. But I'm also a realist, and the planet is in trouble from so many perspectives. Doomsayer, maybe, if that's someone who believes in the End Times, but having said that I don't walk around with a frown on my face, far from it. I plan on living the rest of my life smiling as much as possible and pray that I can have a positive effect on everyone in my sphere of life.

Hey...always two ways to look at things. Or...is it two (and more) things to look at. I know, enjoy, and appreciate the good side. The nice neighbors, the stuff I have and enjoy, my wonderful partner in this thing we call life. Lots of things. But I'm also aware that there are those out there in positions of power who hate middle class USA, it's constitution, and it's values, and are doing all they can to destroy that lifestyle. They are destroying the democracy they claim is in peril. Right now they seem to be succeeding. Is it too late for our nation to make a comeback? Maybe so.

Ahhh, but then we can look at it from a bigger picture. That this entire planet is but a small speck of dust in this galaxy, and the universe is full of countless galaxies. So, does anything really matter?
