I was hoping rangerdoc would chime in here or anyone else that may know the answer to my 69 question. No...not that 69.:kiss:

Bill and I are getting all the transmission fluids changed in all of our vehicles. We have 6 including the Bullitt. Can anyone be sure of how many miles to do a fluid/flush change on my 69 Mustang? I don't believe it has ever been done. I am the second owner and have had it for 31 years. It has 72,000 original miles on it now. Probably wouldn't hurt to have it done, I am sure.

I don't think it says in the owner's manual. I don't know as I haven't checked. Thought I would ask here first. :)

Yes and yes, get it done especially if it's not in recent memory. You didn't say if it was an automatic? If it is, you will have to have the pan removed and filter changed. Also, I think you can drain the Torque converter on those older Fords.
If it's a manual, drain and refill. Good luck.

If you find a good transmission shop, they should have equipment to ensure no old fluid remains in the torque converter. I'd look for a specialty transmission shop for this. 49 years and unchanged????

I'm not sure there's a specific drain interval stated anywhere, but if you've had it for 31 years and never changed it then now would be a good time. Typically non-synthetic transmission oil calls for getting changed every 30k miles or so. In your case I'd be way more concerned with the time than miles. The oil breaks down after a while and doesn't provide as much lubrication as it should. I've got 15+ year old synthetic oil in my 4-speed and will change it before it gets back on the road (it's been sitting for 13 years).

Just don't fall for the old show and tell of metal slivers in the pan and filter, that's normal, just look for larger chunks

Wifey's has a 74 Plymouth Duster (purchased new in '74). At a little over 200K the transmission started to slip. When I asked when the last time the fluid and filter was changed, she said never. I changed fluid and filter and still running good today. According to the owners manual, the transmission (automatic) is a sealed unit and never requires service. I guess she was following manufactures specifications.

Actually, this car has been sitting for a few years. Once I retire, it will be one of the first that I put back on the road. Will change all fluids (including transmission) and get er running again. Interior was redone before parking it so will send to body shop to refresh body and it will be show ready. One owner with original drivetrain.

BTW, Wifey had a 1970 Mustang Convertible which we sold shortly before buying the 08 Bullitt. Her convertible was a model 76B (deluxe) of which only 1,474 were ever built. Car had it's original 351 4v Cleveland (M code) with automatic.
