149 is at the dealer with a loud ticking noise coming from the engine. Numerous mechanics told me prior to taking it into the dealer that it was a bad lifter. Dealer has had the car all day, and now is telling me this is a normal noise. They are telling me that they have a Bullitt in stock that makes the same loud anoying noise. I am on my way after work to pickup the car and listen to this other Bullitt they say is making the same noise. Anyone else having this noise with there car, or am I correct in my thinking that I am being serviced "lubeless"

I'd have to say that mine isn't making it. I've only got 150 miles on her, though. I'm just thinking of everything I have to look forward to. I do enjoy it, though. If the motor went, I'd have to repair it 'cause it's a keeper. I hope you make out OK with maybe a quick fix. I know how it feels to wait awhile.

I have had a ticking noise...it's actually more like a quick hiss...i found out it only happens when I run the A/C. The A/C drips water...some of it goes on to the exhaust and headers...which makes that loud tick, or hiss. With A/C running, it happens around every 30 seconds or so. Without A/C, it doesn't happen. It MIGHT be that...but I'm not sure in your case.

I just called the dealer back, and told them that I had corresponded with several other Bullitt owners, and nobody is having the problem that I am and I do not need to waste my time coming down there to listen the other Bullitt they have that is supposedly making the same noise. I will not pick this car up, or make my first payment to Ford Motor Credit untill it is fixed, and fixed right. I am on hold as I type this putting in a complaint to Fords 800#. If anyone is hearing this noise, or if anyone has any ideas on what more I can do to get them to fix this problem Pleas let me know. Also, thanks alot for everyones input and help they have given me while Im dealing with this situation, its been a big help.

As much as I love to hate the dealer... I would give them a chance. They make money off of fixing stuff for you from Ford. And as far as getting advice from those mechanic buddies of yours you may want to go someplace else. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but with OHC's I don't think your lifters are going to be bad.
I was ready to destroy my dealer last week when my check engine light came on and even though they had Saturday hours they would not put it on the tester for me to get the codes.

Good luck

Mid life I think your right, I don't believe a OHC has lifers but that don't mean that the ticking he is hearing isn't something related to the valves (like a broken spring)
Does the engine still run smooth? and does it still make good power?
1007 has 400 miles and doesn't make nothing but pure music.

If it were mine I would put a vaccum gauge on it. If anything were wrong in the valve train I think it would show up on the gauge. Plus might as well get a reference reading now.

I am not saying that there may not be a problem, just that I would procede slowly and see what the dealer has to say. No use in making enemies over nothing.

I would hook up with the service guy, learn his name and call him by name every chance I had and maybe drop off a case of beer or soda around quitting time one afternoon to say thanks. I did that at my BMW dealer years ago and ALWAYS got the straight story and they always made sure the best guy for the job worked on my car.

No odd ticking noises here either. I have a regular tick that the engine makes.. but then it Think every fuel injected car makes that noise.. At least my Ranger did and so do both escorts. But you can only really hear it if your under the hood. Also reember that a "ticking" noise can be made by an exhaust leak. I'd tell the dealer to check that as well.. And if he does have another car with the same noises, he may have one with the same problem.

thank god, no engine noises, valve train noises, water leak hissing noises ....in fact the only noise at all with D.H.G.# 1994 is a clicking / cycling noise with the a/c...the dealer said it was a solenoid that cycles the a/c thus the every 30seconds its located under the dash /glove box ... the service manager said they had some stick on the gt's....its annoying but not a problem or affecting the cooling of the car....personally i am not letting the dealer get his hands on her for just that. maybe if I have other issues...maybe then but not now....

By the way, our overhead cam design uses a hydraulic lash adjuster, similar to a lifter. It pumps up and pushes the follower up against the cam. The follower pivots on the adjuster and the other end pushes against the valve stem. Your tick could be a collapsed lash adjuster.

That noise I have heard. Thanks for the explanation. I heard it lastnight (130 miles) when I had the A/C on low. I suspected it might be the A/C, so I turned it off and sure enough it went away.

If this is noise from inside the car, then it is probably just the freon going past the expansion valve before it hits the evaperator I believe its called. It is kind of like a carburator that meters the freon flow under pressure. You will hear it hiss and gurgle and sound eratic from inside, lower right of dash.

Well guys and gals, it not getting any better. I picked up the car two nights ago after being told there was nothing wrong with it. I have an appointment to have another dealer look at it on Monday. I tried changing out the 5W-30 that the factory recommends for 10W-30 to see if a thicker oil would quiet it down, no such luck. I really love this car, but I wish all of you guys could hear the noise its making. It sounds like an old worn out motor with a bad lifter. How would it make all of you feel to actually be depressed about having to start of your new Bullitt!

Bullitt 197,
your hearing the same noise as I
(thank god, Im not crazy) with mine it has gotten progressively worse as I put miles on the car. I am at 1875 miles now, and what was once a noise that made me go hmmmm in the drive through is now a noise I hear coming from the engine as I accelerate with the windows up in the car. sitting at idle in my garage it really sounds like an internal engine problem. I had the lead tech at the last dealer the car was at (that could not find the problem) tell me off the record to try the 10-30 oil and see if it helped. He was telling me that in the climate I am in (being at or above 100 degrees) that the thinner oils are not that good. I am interested in any comments you may have.

I know EXACTLY what sound you're talking about. Mine does it too. They couldn't figure it out, and they're holding off untill they can do the tranny work. It's making a grinding noise when cruising in 4 or 5th, or slowing down in nuetral. Also my suspension is WHACK. It's creeks and groans like a 150 yr. old rocking chair with fat Albert in it.

The clicking noise that u may hear is from the fuel injectors spraying into the manifold . That is if the clicking isnt like really loud. Thats them cycling on and off. Thanx Havgun! # 1676 900 miles and counting!
