One year ago tonight

One year ago tonight I smoked my last cigarette. At the rate I was smoking, I would say I saved my lungs about 450 packs or 9,000 smokes . About 1500 saved in money and I can breath much better....LMAO... like anyone is surprised to hear I can breath better. I had smoked for 21-22 years, so now my 8 month old Bullitt still smells new. One year down and many more to come smokefree.

Congrats, man! That's hard to do, I'm sure.

I've been smoking for 4-5 years (never in the Bullitt though) and I need to quit as well. Any words of advice? :)
Great job Matt keep up the good work.
Good to hear Matt. I don't smoke but I've seen many friends who did try to quit. It obviously takes a lot of will. I wish you great continued success.

Make your mind up you want to quit. I used the patches, the wal mart generics are good and half the price of name brands. I used the 21mg patches for 4 weeks, then the 14mg for 2 weeks and 7 mg for about 3 weeks but kept taking patch off earlier in evening, got to point I was wearing patch less then 8 hours, then just quit the patches too.
I still have many days that I think of a smoke, but those days are less and less and when I do think of one, it is more a passing thought now. Use the patches(or whatever method you like best) even if you wear the 7 mg patch for a long time it is still better for you and way cheaper. 2 week supply about $25-30 at wal mart.
NO SMOKES = $1500 worth of gas, new car covers, and the car port I put up in Dec. They are already about .50 more per pack and I just saw feds are upping the tax on them again.
I gave up the same week the Berlin Wall came down - though those events are wholly unconnected..
My GF at the time 'witheld privileges' until I agreed to quit!

To help with the lack of smokes, I went onto 5 packs of cookies a day and ran 10 miles a day to help with the cookie-intake...
It also helped that I was in training for my Junior Commander's Cadre at Brecon in Wales - one of the hardest courses run by the Army...16 weeks of hell...
Congrats! My wife and I have still yet to quit. Hopefully some time this year. Tragic family events over the past 7 years have not helped.

We do not smoke in the Bullitt or GT/CS Mustangs at all. Neither do we smoke in the house, only the garage.

Old song lyrics:

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette.
Puff, puff, puff, until you puff yourself to death.
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate, you ain't got time, he'll have to wait;
You've just got to have another cigarette.

My national anthem. One day, though, I'll get smart. One day.

WAY TO GO, MATT! :clap2:
way to go matt ......keep it up and enjoy being healthier

Don't really know, Mark. It was just an old tune from my parent's time. We'd sing it when we'd have the guitars out goofing around. "Mares Eat Oats and Does Eat Oats" (and little lambs eat ivy) was out back then, too. So was "Alexander's Ragtime Band." Old OLLLLLLLLD stuff.

happy valentines day jimbo
You got me to wondering, so I looked it up. Yep, Phil Harris had a version, as did Jimmy Dean, as did Hank Thompson. It was originally Merle Travis and Tex Williams, and that's probably the version my mom & dad knew (and we sang). Here's the full lyrics:

Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette
Written by Merle Travis and Tex Williams

Now I'm a feller with a heart of gold
And the ways of a gentleman I've been told
The kind of guy that wouldn't even harm a flea

But if me and a certain character met
The guy that invented the cigarette
I'd murder that son-of-a-gun in the first degree

It ain't cuz I don't smoke myself
And I don't reckon that it'll harm your health
Smoked all my life and I ain't dead yet

But nicotine slaves are all the same
At a pettin' party or a poker game
Everything gotta stop while they have a cigarette

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette

Now in a game of chance the other night
Old Dame Fortune was a-doin' me right
The kings and the queens just kept on comin' round

And I got a full and I bet 'em high
But my bluff didn't work on a certain guy
He just kept on raisin' and layin' that money down

Now he'd raise me and I'd raise him
I sweated blood, gotta sink or swim
He finally called and didn't even raise the bet

So I said "aces full Pops how 'bout you?"
He said "I'll tell you in a minute or two
But right now, I gotta have me a cigarette"

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hates to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette

(Ah, smoke it! Hah! Yes! Yes! Yes!)

The other night I had a date
With the cutest little girl in the United States
A high-bred, uptown, fancy little dame

She loved me and it seemed to me
That things were 'bout like they oughta be
So hand in hand we strolled down lover's lane

She was oh so far from a cake of ice
And our smoochin' party was goin' nice
So help me cats I believe I'd be there yet

But I give her a kiss and a little squeeze
And she said, "ah, Marty, excuse me please
I just gotta have me another, cigarette"

And she said, smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette
See less See more
dman ur good jimbo.......the master of disaster , thanks
It's all come back to me now and now it makes sense. I watched every episode of the Flintstones when I was a kid and Fred AND Barney constantly touted Winston cigarettes. No wonder I started smoking.

Too bad he's been dead for thousands of years now or I'd sue his @ss !

You'd better include "Barney" in that lawsuit, Clancy. Here's proof that he was a co-conspirator! (Wilma, too).

Do it NOW. The more years that pass the harder it is, I can not emphasize that enough!!
