I watched it twice as it didn't stay on each picture long enough to read the captions and then look at the pic! Thanks for posting it Bret!
Those sure are some fine words honoring a great man!WHEREAS, Steve McQueen has been widely acknowledged as a legendary screen star, bringing us the pleasure of his company in such iconic films as The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, Love With the Proper Stranger, The Cincinnati Kid, The Sand Pebbles (for which he earned an Academy Award Best Actor nomination), The Thomas Crown Affair, Bullitt, Junior Bonner, The Getaway, and Papillon; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McQueen, while giving cinematic life to the mythic American adventurer, was also an adventurer in real life: an avid, professional-level auto and motorcycle racer; an amateur flyer; and a United States Marine who saved the lives of five fellow Marines during an Arctic exercise and served as part of a Marine honor guard assigned to protect President Harry Truman; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McQueen, consigned as an adolescent “incorrigible” to the California Junior Boys Republic in Chino, soon became a member of the institution’s Boys Council and, throughout his years of celebrity, maintained a close relationship with Boys Republic, donating time and money, returning to provide conversation and advice, and answering every letter he received from the boys; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McQueen, a Los Angeles resident from the 1940s, was a well-known and beloved figure in the Brentwood neighborhood where he lived for many years, and a man who brought international fame to the Los Angeles lifestyle; and

During the drive home, Miss Bisset seemed very happy with the outcome of the event. She mentioned about how long it had been since seeing her co-stars, and was glad to see them all together again. She also told me that Peter Yates was very ill, and in the hospital in the U.K.I asked her about the Porsche she drove in the movie. She said it belonged to the Asst. Director, and that she really enjoyed driving the car. So all in all, a great time, and good memories for all involved.

My VIP was Don Gordon aka Sgt. Delgetti. Steve was Don’s best friend and that he still missed him very much. After picking him up at his house and as we were leaving his gorgeous house he ask me how long I have been driving (He thought I was a Chauffer) I explained that I was with IMBOC and that he was riding in Bullitt Mustang, all could say was cool man. As we were driving down Sunset He began to tell stories about Steve and himself would ride their Triumph motorcycles down Sunset and through the Hollywood hills also as we would get to intersections he would recall stories about himself and Steve.
Along the way I got a phone call from the Jules Verne people that they were running behind and to go to the W hotel to meet up with everyone else as I told Don about the change he said Steve would not put up with these #@%! and Hollywood has changed so much over the past years and this was Don's first red carpet in a very long time.
After Bullitt and on the way back to his house Don told me that it was the first time he had watch Bullitt on the big screen. Don began telling stories about the making of Bullitt and how Steve and him would sneak away and ride their motorcycles because they were not allowed to ride during the filming (insurance reason) during one of these ride Steve got about 4 feet of air over one of the bumps after they stopped he turns to Don and says would it be great to jump a car over that bump like we did, Don looks at Steve and says you mean like you did there’s no way I could do that and that is how the jump scene become part of the movie. Don went on to say that Steve was a great rider and he was good at best. Don says that Steve did all the driveing himself in the movie except the scene when the Mustang goes into the ditch only because the Insurance guys where on set that day and Steve made a point to show them that was not driving.
Don is a very warm and charming gentleman and misses Steve very much, truly a great man.

Very Exciting to see the cast from Bullitt now. I can not believe the incredible opportunites you So. CAL guys have to be there for such great times remembering what so many of us boomers feel is part of our very core !!
The closest I have come on the East Coast to being close to anyone involved with Bullitt was meeting and speaking with Sen Chalmers / Robert Vaughan, in my capacity as Chief of Detectives at the time, as he did a promo for a security company.
