I'm the proud, semi-proud, not so proud owner of 04740. I think its a great #. She ran up to 140 on a flat stretch of road between Denver and Colo Springs. I ran out of open space to push it any further. I think I could have made 150 with enough road.

I have so many issues that match other people that I didn't know where to post this.

I ordered it Aug 3rd, and took delivery Aug 22nd. The dealer identified a few defects, 2 small areas of paint, door lock on pass side and top end noise when cold started. The noise sounds like loose lifters that tighten when warmed up.

160 miles to the 1st tank on 91 octane, (91 is high octane in Colo.)
190 miles on the 2nd tank of gas, and I was nice to it. I'm somewhere around 240 miles now.
Someone else in high altitude, please tell me what kinda mileage you're getting. I commute 140 miles round trip. I put 2300 miles on it in the 3 weeks I had it.

The Dealer (Freeway Ford, Denver CO) said they would fix all of the "issues" when the new lock assembly arrives.

Here is what I found before I gave it to them.

Smell exhaust fumes inside under hard acceleration.
I found no less that 11 really bad areas from "fallout" or mis-matched colors of black, even a spot on the roof where they painted over flaked off paint.
the paint on the kick panel below door on pass side, flaked off during first washing.
the little panel behind the doors are a nice gloss black and the doors are a grey-black.
One panel had a ripple in it, appears to be heat damage.
The CD player wouldn't play more than 3 tracks before quiting.
The driver side door doesn't meet the hinge properly.
Occasionally the car gets un-ruly where I find myself chasing to keep control of it, at a steady speed.

I gave them the car back on Sept 14th. They sat on it for 3 1/2 weeks waiting for approval from Ford to repaint the entire car. Ford wouldn't give it so they spot painted/repaired it. Totally unacceptable!!

I picked the car up Nov 7th. They kept it darn near 2 months. It still has a crappy paint job.
It still clangs, (metal on metal) when its first started. They said thats normal because the engine is built "loose". A problem they said they would fix when I took delivery of the car.

After picking up the car;

The driver door still doesn't meet the hinge right.
the small panels behind the door, still don't match the black color of the car.
The un-ruly handling, was supposedly fixed by an adjusting the toe-in. We'll see.

The CD player works!!!!

I really love this car, but it has too many flaws that will be really ugly in 3 years. The dealer is trying to find another Bullitt at this late date to replace the one I have.

Please help me keep a Bullitt in my garage. If there is a dealer near you with a Blue or Black Bullitt, please e-mail and make my Dealer's search shorter.

The worst part, the gave me an Escort to drive while they kept my Bullitt for 2 months. I'm making payments on a Bullitt and I'm driving an Escort.

Face it guys Fords quality sucks! And Ford knows it! I dont care if the Bullitt is Gold plated! The Quality stinks! No car should have the problems that this car has had! Hell even Fords new T-Bird was recalled before it ever hit the dealers because it was built like crap! I love my Bullitt but the only reason i keep it is because it is a Bullitt if it was a standard GT it would have been gone already and I would be a owner of a GM product! On hard accelleration it seems like i have a exhaust leak now! its not loud but noticable!OH another thing Ford told me after I wrote an email about all the problems I have had that I would hear from them in 3 business days well that was about a month a go and im still waiting! Anyway thats about it for now! Thanx Havgun! #1676
Oh and we are still waiting on those stickers!

When the lock stopped working, I tried to use the key so I could get my daughter in her car seat. Needless to say, no key hole found.

My brother's eclipse doesn't have one, nor is expedition.

I agree, if this wasn't a Bullitt, I wouldn't even be bitching about it. I would've replaced is with the loaner Escort they gave me to drive.

Just remember, not all Bullitts are screwed up. I've got 9,300 hard miles on mine and everything is perfect, from the paint to the mechanicals. So are several others.

Aside from one small paint job blemish, a light scratch on the rear bumper and the one-time problem with driver’s side window not going up, my Bullitt has been flawless.
The two cosmetic blemish’s were there when I picked up the car. However, I didn’t notice them until I got home. I always meant to take it back to have them fixed, but fear it’s too late now. I have about 8k miles on 1048.

My dealer, Ford Country of Henderson/Las Vegas was excellent about giving me a pre-delivery inspection.

The car was all spit shined and vacuumed, sitting in a very well lit detail bay and they went over every inch of the car with me with a clipboard to note any flaws.

The only thing I didn't notice was I had the wrong grill, it was a regular GT grill and I still didn't notice until Vicki pointed it out to me.

The bottom line was my dealer was bending over backwards to make sure I was 100% satisfied at delivery.

I really commend them for that!

I have to say my Ford dealer has been very good at working my issues also. I had to have the Dr. side headlight replaced it had spots. I had few chips and a unpainted spot on the roof. They took it in for a week to do the work. It was to bad that the monkey that painted it caused more problems than he fixed. Bullitt 4075 must now go back in the shop to repair windshield trim, chips on roof, many scracthes on the roof and several areas of paintover spray. The shop manager was not happy with his people when I showed him the damage and insured me that the car would be perfect when I get it back this time. I hope this is true.

Let the dance begin!

The Dealer, trying to work with me, talked to the regional Ford Rep, who authorized the car to be repainted. Great!!

So I take the car in today, its starts to leak anti-freeze on the dealer's service center floor...........This would be an Omen.

It appears that its coming from the radiator top, or the cap. Which one I don't know but they are looking into it.

My feelings are hurt. I don't care if they re-paint the car. I want it replaced. Apparently, they don't swap cars with out of state dealers, so the car @ Grody Ford, CA will stay at Grody Ford.

The Sales Dept tells me to contact Ford Customer Service if I want them to take my car back.

I have now been invited to the Big Dance!!

I must say, I at least feel my Dealer is trying to work with me. We'll see.

Sorry to hear about your problems Silvius. I guess I have been lucky as our car is pretty much flawless. I have checked it over very closely a number of times.
There is absolutely no excuse for Ford putting the wrong grille, wrong panels etc on a feature car. If the factory quality control guys don't care, then you know what you are up against.
And HaveGun, hate to tell you this but GM is no better. Can you say L E M O N. I have had no less than 20 GM products in the past 30 years and I would be hard pressed to buy another unless their record improves too. I hate to say this but the ricers have us beat on quality (but I am not suggesting they are perfect either).

The owners manual says to run Regular Unleaded Fuel, the high octane has an additive than can damage your fuel system. My salesman told me to run premium, but the dealership only has regular unleaded fuel and that is what they filled my tank with. I read the owners manual and found out that my salesman did't know squat about what he sold me or told me. Run regular unleaded and you shouldn't have any problems.

GM sucks too.. Other than the Mustang Bullitt, I am a Dodge fan. I own a 99 Stratus, and love it. It the near future, I want to trade it in for a Stratus Coupe R/T. Those cars are so nice...

Hi Silvius,

We are both in somewhat the same boat. I had the front of 227 painted 4 times and it still is not right. The Enginw was replaced at around 4700 miles. Yesterday I pulled it out of the garage to clean it and noticed oil on the floor again;-(... Might be power stearing fluid this time, but I'm NOT HAPPY!!! My car has spent over 2 months of downtime because of repairs and more repairs;-(... So I can relate to all the HELL your going through. BTW, I was NEVER offerd a loaner car during all this<G>.

At one point I told them to get me a NEW car. I was told that if I needed to do this I would have to go through the lemon law and that it would take 45 days just to get reviews. I explained that by that time there would be NO NEW Bullitts left and that I wanted a Bullitt. So I am working on getting mine fixed the way I want it fixed;-)... Oh yes and For is supposed to be giving me the Extended warrenty. What a hassel though.

Good luck.

Hang in there Silvius you know what they say (bad start, good finish). As far as Ford quality goes i've really never had any problems but maybe it's luck.I'll look around up here in Western Canada for you but there's probably none since Bullitts to Canada were very limited.

Would the dealer find another Bullitt for you? I know where there is a BLACK Bullitt, #613 with 290 miles on it. It was one of the 470 originally sent to Canada. It has the 6 CD stacker for option(s). Sorry to hear of your problems. My dealer has goofed up everything they have touched, so I can empathize with your situation. Maybe This could be a workable option for you. They might possibly buy yours back, leaving you free to buy another. Let me know if this would help you.

There were a couple of Bullitts on EBay. It's a long shot, but worth a try.

Hey All. Its been a while since I've been on, and I realized I never did a follow up after everything was fixed.

Freeway Ford (Denver) has far exceeded my expectations. They tried their best to make me happy, and they were polite and friendly during the whoe process. I'd buy another car from them in a heartbeat!

I still smell exhaust fumes under hard acceleration, but I don't think they are going to push the car that hard to smell it.

when I got the car back, the paint job looked really good. I didn't find any bad spots.

I'm happy I kept the car, at least until the next car insurance payment comes due (2 speeding tickets prior to the Bullitt are killing me)

Hi Silvius,

Great news on the car. I know 227 went back in for paint and they stripped the front end, and painted from the doors forward. What a difference now . I actually enjoy the car once again  Gad to hear it worked out for you as well.

Thanks for the update.

Bud
