I'm the proud, semi-proud, not so proud owner of 04740. I think its a great #. She ran up to 140 on a flat stretch of road between Denver and Colo Springs. I ran out of open space to push it any further. I think I could have made 150 with enough road.
I have so many issues that match other people that I didn't know where to post this.
I ordered it Aug 3rd, and took delivery Aug 22nd. The dealer identified a few defects, 2 small areas of paint, door lock on pass side and top end noise when cold started. The noise sounds like loose lifters that tighten when warmed up.
160 miles to the 1st tank on 91 octane, (91 is high octane in Colo.)
190 miles on the 2nd tank of gas, and I was nice to it. I'm somewhere around 240 miles now.
Someone else in high altitude, please tell me what kinda mileage you're getting. I commute 140 miles round trip. I put 2300 miles on it in the 3 weeks I had it.
The Dealer (Freeway Ford, Denver CO) said they would fix all of the "issues" when the new lock assembly arrives.
Here is what I found before I gave it to them.
Smell exhaust fumes inside under hard acceleration.
I found no less that 11 really bad areas from "fallout" or mis-matched colors of black, even a spot on the roof where they painted over flaked off paint.
the paint on the kick panel below door on pass side, flaked off during first washing.
the little panel behind the doors are a nice gloss black and the doors are a grey-black.
One panel had a ripple in it, appears to be heat damage.
The CD player wouldn't play more than 3 tracks before quiting.
The driver side door doesn't meet the hinge properly.
Occasionally the car gets un-ruly where I find myself chasing to keep control of it, at a steady speed.
I gave them the car back on Sept 14th. They sat on it for 3 1/2 weeks waiting for approval from Ford to repaint the entire car. Ford wouldn't give it so they spot painted/repaired it. Totally unacceptable!!
I picked the car up Nov 7th. They kept it darn near 2 months. It still has a crappy paint job.
It still clangs, (metal on metal) when its first started. They said thats normal because the engine is built "loose". A problem they said they would fix when I took delivery of the car.
After picking up the car;
The driver door still doesn't meet the hinge right.
the small panels behind the door, still don't match the black color of the car.
The un-ruly handling, was supposedly fixed by an adjusting the toe-in. We'll see.
The CD player works!!!!
I really love this car, but it has too many flaws that will be really ugly in 3 years. The dealer is trying to find another Bullitt at this late date to replace the one I have.
Please help me keep a Bullitt in my garage. If there is a dealer near you with a Blue or Black Bullitt, please e-mail and make my Dealer's search shorter.
The worst part, the gave me an Escort to drive while they kept my Bullitt for 2 months. I'm making payments on a Bullitt and I'm driving an Escort.
