This must be bad when I race someone from a dead stop (2000 GT with only a CAI). She's not even a good driver but at the top of 3rd, she begins to make her approach and by the middle of 4th, I'm one car behind her...

something's not right, right?

maybe there was more on the iside than you could see. A friend and I race for fun everyonce in a while, and he has a 75 shot of nos and i think the biggest lead he has ever had on me was a car. he is in a 94 GT

I take it back. It was a 2001. Now, from a roll, I dun stomped a mud hole in her ass... but I can't seem to do it on a dead stop... Weird...

I had the same problem with a 92 GT. Whooped his ass on a roll but from a dead stop, even with me jumping in front of him, I still lost...

Maybe its more mental than anything, you think?

its funny you say that youre quick off the roll but not the light. i feel that i'm the complete opposite. i guess because i don't have as much experience but when in a slow roll i tend not get off hard, maybe in the wrong gear.

I have #1025 and I have a friend that has a 2001 GT. The first time I raced him I was completly stock and he had dynomax mufflers and K&N filter. We raced at a dead stop, so we took off and we were even until he starts pulling away. Well I go into third gear and catchup but never beat him. His GT was quick. About a month passes and I get my birthday present from my girlfriend. She got me Bassani off-road X-pipe and two chamber flows. I LOVE YOU BABE! Well I strap those puppies on and break them in. By this time his only add on was the Steeda tri-ax that his girlfriend(which is my girl's cousin) bought him for christmas, (man we got some cool girls). So I talk smack and got him to race me again. On the way over to our secret track spot....he makes a quick exit off the freeway with a friend of his whose driving a truck and looses me intentionally...no big deal so i continue to our spot and wait. He shows up with his friend and we line up. He's got this big smerk on his face and the light turns green. He jumps real quick and beats me off the line.....it was unbelievable how fast he was in first gear....I am in first too and shift to second @about 5800rpm before he does. So I catch up at the end of second and shift into third at the same rpm. During third I just spank him real bad and glance over and see him make a (WTF?)face. I love when that happens. I ended beating him by about a car length. We race again and the same thing happens...he spanked me off the line but at the end of second and third I hand his ass to him. So he is not happy and wants to race again...and I suggest he should just keep his dignity and admitt defeat. But he was insistant and once again we race. Well third time wasn't a charm for him as I put two carlengths this time. After the races I just felt sorry for the guy. He then confesses he let pressure out of his tires and removes his spare at the gas station and stores it in his friends truck before meeting me at the line. The punk tried to cheat and still lost. Oh well, thats my story racing a requlatGT. Those 99+GT's are pretty quick, just make sure you know how to drive and shift at the proper rpm.

No additional mods yet, getting aluminum driveshaft, 3.73's, Nitto DR's, and a procharger.
No times either.
Rock on people.

You should check out some of the posts on the Drag Strip section of the forums. There are some good posts about launch techniques. You have to launch at the proper RPM or you're going to bog down and lose. I've found that a 4500-4700 RPM take off seems to do the trick. Just tach her up, dump the clutch and HOLD ON :-B
(Don't forget to disengage the traction control)

Hey, what’s up Carlos? Nice talking to you today.

No offence, but maybe you should hang it up man… Maybe you really should look into that minivan you were thinking about buying…hehehe

Just reading the postings about power loss. I feel most confident about the Bullitt's performance out of the hole! An rpm of 4000 plus and dumping the clutch is awesome! Very little traction loss compared to many other cars, and lots of torque. Shortly after buying my car, I learned a painful lesson about NOT disengaging the traction control ... how embarrassing!

Good point. Thats where I believe I have let the clutch go? I will have to check more closely and let you know! ... because I punch the accelerator and engage the clutch a split second afterward. By the time I look at the tach, thats where it is ranging. One thing is for sure, the tires don't spin for long before they bite! I have had a couple car buffs friends who rode with me attest this! I am not a race expert - but I am impressed! Stock tires and all!

Back to my 4K take off bit ... when taking off I notice my tach at the 4k range, but that is after the tires are turning ... ACTUALLY, when the clutch engages and full power is turned to the wheels ... I estimate that engagement is closer to 3K. I HAVE ONLY DONE THIS A FEW TIMES ... I plan to keep this car for a LONG time. My wife calls it "my baby"!
