Since being laid off from Delta Airlines on
November 1, 2001, I am pursuing truck/bus
driver positions. When applying and inter-
viewing what is the proper attire? When I
interviewed at Delta all applicants wore
conservative business suits. Should I wear
one for truck/bus driver positions? HELP!

I'd wear a suit of my finest polished armor to show I was prepared for the job.

Thanks! I don't have any armor handy but I
do have the collared shirt and slacks.
I appreciate the inputs!

BLACKBULLITT, actually the armor would go
over quite well at Brinks, Dunbar, Wells-
Fargo armored truck divisions!
I have applied to these...you must have ESP!

Hey PY, it is always better to go overdressed than underdressed. You can never go wrong with a suit and tie. If anything, you can only look better/determined than looking like a slacker.

Good luck with the interview and I hope that Delta realizes what fools they are and hire back their best pilot!

What don't you understand PY? You mentioned a conservative buisness suit, why do people think a suit is conservative? I surely don't feel conservative when I wear a suit, I feel extravegent. Dan hit the nail right on the head. Karl you ought to be ashamed of yourself, a grown man not owning a suit - just kidding - but seriously - I would probably wear a suit to any interview - except for burger joints and conveinance stores.

Chalmers2212, I misread your post. I was
thinking down a different path. A conserva-
tive suit (Brooks Brothers) vs. a stylish suit
(Armani). I see what you are saying now.
Thanks for clarifying.

Hey, I'll wear my Delta pilot uniform!
At least they would remember me!
It would go like this...

Bob-
"Remember that dumba$$ guy who wore his
stupid pilot uniform for his interview?"

Joe-
"Oh yeah! Glad we didn't hire him. What a
mental!"

PY if you can afford an Armani suit, you probably don't need a job. I wore a suit to this new job that I had and the next day I dressed more casual and the boss said I looked relaxed. Hell I was relaxed when I wore the suit, why did she think I was uptight just because I dressed nice? WTF????

I'll send you $50 if you wear your suit from Delta(with wings and cap)to that interview. You gotta take a picture in the office though. That would be funny.

about 15 years ago or so I applied at a company called the Grass Valley Group..electronics firm makes TV switch boards, etc...campus environment, bikes to use between buildings, anyway, wore a suit, felt out of place really quick since no suits in site, and the custom was to SNIP YOUR TIE OFF WITH SCISSORS IF YOU WORE ONE TO THE INTERVIEW!!!! Damn...surprise...and a damn nice silk tie!

Py, if it's a bus driving job your going for, dress up like Jackie Gleason, your sure to be accepted! All kidding aside, you can never go wrong by wearing your best clothes, and remember, it's not only how you look, but more importantly, the attitude you project ie." positive and self confident". All the best, Good Luck!

Thanks northern bullitt, I do have a plan in mind for "attitude projected" if I am lucky enough to get an interview. I say "lucky" because thus far nobody wants to interview a laid off pilot because they think I will leave as soon as I am called back to fly at Delta. Also, the only work experience I have is flying helicopters (military) or airplanes (Comair and Delta) which means nothing in the truck driving sector. I can understand this because driving a truck can be a complicated task (I am studying for the CDL). I do have a plan if I get an interview.
I will make it happen.
