Anyone ever swap out the stock engine on a Ranger for a newer 4.0 or 5.0 with new tranny? I have a 1998 with the 2.9 V-6 with over 130,000. There just doesn't seem to be much power there and the 5-spd tranny is getting a little "clunky". Was thinking of getting a drivetrain of a 4.0 to put into it. The body and interior is in good shape. It is a 4 wheel drive extended cab also. Thanks gang for any advise!

I was originally thinking of a complete 4.0 and tranny to just bolt into place but I also know you can get a 5.0 into the 88 Ranger as well. I've never tried to do anything so grand and was wondering if anyone else had gone through the experience and could tell me if its worth it or a nightmare. You don't think having the Bullitt has anything to do with my thoughts of the 5.0 do you???? ::
