Hi everyone,

I've had HG #4688 since January, and I love driving it. However, I've noticed over the last week a rattle coming from behind the driver's seat, somewhere around the B pillar, near the seat belt and the driver's rear quarter window. It's pretty much a constant thing, even at low speeds on smooth roads. Like most rattles you hear, it's really annoying. This one sounds like someone's tapping Morse code into my left ear. I can drown it out if I turn up the stereo, but I'd really like to get this fixed. My attempts to locate the exact source of it haven't been successful.

I've searched through the forums about rattles, but haven't come across one quite like this. I'm hoping someone here can help me out before I take the B into the dealer.

Thanks for the help!

Try spraying a little lubricant (I use spray Teflon) at the pivot in the D shaped plastic seat belt guide, I found mine was ticking and with it so close to your ear it sounds pretty loud.

This is so ironic. I just took mine in for a steering vibration which I thought was the tire out of balance but was not the issue. So I said can I have a loaner because I have a rattle in the door as well as a creak in the dash on the passenger side. When I I push against the door near the knob that goes down into the door the sound goes away. And the dash is the same when I apply pressure near the vent. I tried to put a piece of felt in between where the dash joins the bottom of the dash. Seemed to work briefly.

One of your door-rattles is probably the small rectangular trim-plate behind the door handle. Mine does it too - merely touch it gently: if the noise stops - you found it. Someone here pulled theirs off, and put a few layers of electrical-tape on the backside, and that "cured" it.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll give them a try and let you know how it goes.

Nope, no kids or rattles or toys in the back.

I got the chance to take the B out this morning. I drove over to a friend's house, and was hearing the rattle on the way over. I let my friend drive, while I sat in the back and listened for the noise. And then neither one of us could hear the rattle during the drive. When I drove back home, I only it heard once very faintly, and then it went away completely. I'm guessing, and hoping, that when my friend adjusted the driver's seat and seat belt, something caused it to go away.

It would have been nice to pinpoint the location of the noise, but I'm glad it's gone for now.

it could be the pushpin bracket in the trunk that holds the trunk liner in on the drivers side. thats what my rattle was. the snake kept chewing on it and it got loose.
