Just checking, for you more experienced Bullittheads that have reached up and grabbed the revlimiter a few times. What does it feel like? I know in my T-Bird when I hit it it almost felt like the transmission fell out and it was a very violent, like something broke. My BMW was a soft limiter and would just back off like 500 RPMs and then go back and hit it again. Just wondering how the Bullitt handles it.
Thanks

The first time I hit mine(accidentally, I was preoccupied with sound of the engine and exhaust) it was very abrupt. Since then I have hit it twice  (my previous cars have all had a 7000 redline). It was not as severe as the first. I don't intentionally mean to hit it. I am still getting used to life below 7000 rpms.

I would not call it "violent" or "dangerous". I have hit it a couple of times and basically the car stops accelerating. Both times I just shifted and the car kept going. It's pretty easy to do because the engine stays smooth right up to red line.

That was the reason of the post. I wanted to compare my preception of what I thought was the revlimiter to others. I think it kicked in at around 6200 rpms and at around 105 in third. Kind of happens fast so I was looking to compare notes...

I hit mine kind of often but am not worried about it, that's why it's there so you don't damage your engine. One thing I've learned from riding sportbikes is you shouldn't be looking at your tach anyway when riding/driving hard. Things can happen fast even if your eyes are diverted for only a second. You should be watching the road and not worring about hitting the rev limiter. If you hit it, then shift. It would be nice if they had a shift light installed though. IMO  So basically don't worry about hitting it.

Man, you guys must drive your cars hard. I rarely take it above 4500, even when I am getting on it. Of course, I am not dragging it at all.

I hit it once by mistake, wondering why my opponent was so far behind me, lol. Thought something was wrong with my engine, until I realized it was just the limiter, kinda embarrasing, for sure. I think it is set to kick in at 6250, so I try to shift between 5500-6000.

I too have had the rev-limiter kick in.
Mainly it is just embarassing. The engine bascially just stops; I guess the gas is shut off. Of course, as soon as you shift, or drop the RPM, it is back to normal. But to anybody listening, or watching, it will look like your car quit.
On my Bullitt, it kicks in right at about 6,000. I suppose it is much better than having the engine blow.

Hit the mine yesterday. Didn't realize I was in the 6000 rpm range. Startled me! Only lasted a second..changed gears and and everything back to normal. Car running real strong in this cool weather!! My young sons love the speed too! I'm such a good example.

Hey 5111, if you rarely take it above 4500, you're missing the best sounds your Bullitt produces. It sounds good at idle, better at 3000, pretty damn sweet at 4500, and down right mean at 5500-6000

FYI 511
I drive my bullitt hard all the time. Have bounced off the rev limiter many times. My car likes lots of gas. My best tract time was a 13.9. I try to win every light I'm at. Its the rear tires I have a problem with the tread doesn't last worth a damn.

I hit it yesterday. Around a 100mhp in third. Totally unintentional. For once I wasn't paying attention to the rpms. It just felt like it was stalling. Got my attention quick and shifted. No problem. But has anyone ever been able to rev it over the limiter? I have. Doing around 65-70, went to downshift to 4th, caught 2nd. I swear the needle was way up in the 7000 range for no more than a second or two. Shifted to 4th. I was horrified that I may have destroyed the motor. But that was several thousand miles ago and haven't had any problems so I think I'm alright. Scared the hell outta me though.
