Ford has a SSM/special service message #14907 that states that 99-01 Mustangs and other Fords may have defective oil pressure sending units that would cause the gauge to read zero oil pressure when the engine is cold and would cause the needle to swing from zero to normal-and back again- when the engine is cold. The original sender unit part number F8AZ-9278-DA should be replaced by oil sender unit 1U5Z-9278-DA.

This problem seems to possibly effect all V8 Fords for 1999 thru 2001.

My 01 GT developed this problem after 2k miles.

This should be covered under warranty. Give the service order writer the above SSM number and the new part number of the oil sender unit.

You are right--I would wish for a :"real" oil pressure gauge. But I am willing to settle for a "fixed" gauge that reads 6PSI--and not zero when the engine is running. Nothing like seeing a zero oil pressure reading on a new car to get one's attention!
