I am definitely considering going with the BBK Long Tubes and off-road H pipe setup you have on your car. I saw the article in MM&FF's where they dyno tested your car. Very impressive gains. It looks like the headers and off-road H were good for 20 lbft and 20hp.

I am wondering if you have found any down side. Have you had check engine light problems? Did the mil-elims work or did you have to have the chip burned to trick the computer? My X-pipe didn't do anything for the power and I'm still not sure about the sound. Do you have any complaints about this mod after having lived with it?

Eric

BTW- I met a guy Kevin(Roush2k) who mentioned he had met you once. He lives like two blocks from me and has a Beautiful 2001 Blue Convertible Stage III Roush. He is a really nice guy. He said the same about you.

I have been looking at the BBK long tubes myself. I hear you replace the factory manifold studs with bolts. I would prefer the studs, for better clamping force with no loose screw problems.....You only want to do this job once! Hey,with those 3.73 gears, you must have been blowing the tires off at the strip. If I do the gear change,it would most likely be to 3.55s. Better street performance is my goal here instead of a killer drag car.

Mus408,

Take my word for it you won't notice any difference in the gearing if you only go to 3.55's. If I were to do it again I might even consider 4.10's. These engines rev so much more happily than my 96GT. Thye pull all the way to the rev limiter. The 3.73's are no problem on the Highway at all. 70MPH is ~2300rpm or about 300 more than the stock 3.27's. For me I think the gears might have hurt my track times because I was granny shifting and I had to shift into fourth before crossing the line. I thinknI would have gone through the traps in third on the stock gears. Traction is definitely an issue in the first two gears. I don't expect to drag race that much. I just want a 13 second time slip. If I can get that I thiink I'll retire. The 3.73's are great for the street and they make the car a lot more lively.

Hey there Eric sorry for the delay but I have been bogged down with stuff lately. As for your LT questions:

"I am wondering if you have found any down side. Have you had check engine light problems?"
Yes, but only because the Autologic chip the Powertrain tuner burned did not work.

"Did the mil-elims work or did you have to have the chip burned to trick the computer?"
The mil-elims do work at stopping the check engine light from coming on however, according to a very good source, Paul Svinicki, the mil-elims actually hurt performance so you are better advised to get a custom burned chip with off road exhaust.

"My X-pipe didn't do anything for the power and I'm still not sure about the sound. Do you have any complaints about this mod after having lived with it?"
No complaints at all. In fact I am more and more amazed by this car. I had it dyno'd here in England on the 26th at 5000 miles and I pulled 282 RWHP!!!! I don't know the difference between the measurements of a Dynojet vs a Sun but that's all I have to work with for now. I'll go back again with my new chip from PHP once I get this cylinder #1 misfire sorted out.

Tell Kevin I said hello and that I'll be sending him pics of the newly rebuilt Roush (dyno'd 380 rwhp) to www.fnsweet.com once I get my computer up and running at home

Arthur,

Thanks for getting back to me.

That's Kevin's website. I will be sure to let him know. He is an extremely nice guy! I'm supposed to go on an all Mustang cruise with him next weekend.(50 cars are supposed to be going) It got postponed from Nov. 24th to Dec 1st.

Good to know about the chip! It makes sense. The computer probably still has problems with the second set of Oxygen sensors saying that the exhaust is not as clean as it should be. I was told by my friend at the local performance shop that the chip can disable the second set of sensors, so this is probably how you work around that.

Let us know how your misfire turns out. I know in an earlier post you thought that it was a bad coil on the #1 plug. Is that still the case?
