Considering reducing my inventory of Mustangs from 2 to 1--selling the daily driver: Bullitt (B) 1046 and replacing it with a 2002 F150 Lightning. Open for thoughts and abuse.

Try to verbally abuse a lawyer?
You would rip me to shreds...especially a
trial attorney!

Seriously though, if that's what you want to
do, go for it.
The Lightning is a HOT truck!

See all those edits below? I am being very
careful. (actually I can't spell)

Very torn over the issue-potential buyer wants the car badly-I know he will be a good owner. Ex-girlfriend hated the Lightning when I almost bought one last year (bought Bullitt instead). Notice I used the word "Ex". I figure I'll hate myself either way. let's see--Calif lottery is up to 170 million--maybe I'll win it.........

Knowing that it would be going to a good
owner makes the parting a little easier, I
believe. My '99 Vette was traded for my
Bullitt and I will never know if it went to
a good owner. Water under the bridge.

What I'm really hoping for is 'knowledge' from someone who has actually spent serious time behind the wheel of a Lightning-5 min test drives are always great-but how do they run in the real world as a daily driver???? Is gas mileage as bad (12) as I've heard around town, tire wear etc.

Gas milage is not the greatest I will Say, It is a fun truck to drive, But if you plane on roasting the tires a lot, get ready to shell out for new tires. But it is a lot of fun to dust those SS at the stop light.

The owner of Classic & Performance Mustangs in Englewood, CO is selling his 6 month old 2001 Red F150 Lightning. He says it's fast, but he does not like the handling. If you are interested e-mail me, and I'll provide you a tel. no. and name.

As far as selling/trading for your Bullitt for a Lightning, go right a head if it makes you happy. Life is too short and hot cars or hot trucks are fun. However, please stay with us in the Bullittclub. We might need a trial attorney.

I loved my lighting but i hate automatics. What you lose on gas mileage you save on insurnce cause the bullitt is alot higher. You cant go wrong with the lighting and if i could have gotton a 6 speed i would still be buying tires and gas for the big white dog,i do miss f**king with the ss,vets, and stangs but now they have all heard of the lighting and its hard to get a race cause nobody wants to get waxed by a pickup truck!!

I'd sell the second one! If you only had one Bullitt, i'd say don't get rid of it, but since you got 2....go for it. Plus automatic transmission is always better for a daily driver.

Thanks all--just the type of input I need. I'd heard the Lightning handled great (obviously not like a car) so I'm glad (but sad) to have input on handling as well as the automatic transmission issue.

Note-I have 2 Mustangs of which only one is a Bullitt so if sold I become "Bullittless" which does pain me.

The new Dodge Truck with the viper engine sounds interesting-I can't stand the prototype wheels though but I'v been in Fords since I was 9 years old (66 Mustang coupe) so switching 'brands' would not be easy for me. I also have a feeling that dodge truck is going to make a Lightning look cheap pricewise-I guessing that Truck is going to break 45-50k.

I don't know about trading in a Bullitt for a Lightning... though they are simply badass trucks.

I would be more interested if the Lightning was all NA instead of blower. Something about just motors makes the 385 so much more sweeter.

But I'm considering a trade in for a 2003 Mustang Cobra... But I'm not counting on it.

its your choice so go ahead and make it yourself. i own DHG 890 and my dad has an 01 svt lightning. I have driven it quite a bit and don't get me wrong, its a great truck, but its no bullitt. it pulls like noneother but i get bored very quickly with the automatic. i am only used to cars so the ride, which is very upright, seems strange to me. go for it if that's what you want, its just not something i would do. oh yah, the lightning has been getting about 16 on the freeway and 12-13 in town.

I've spent a fair amount of time behind the wheel of various Lightnings, and I just love 'em. When you're at WOT and that eaton is shreiking, it is the coolest sound ever.

If you like going to the drag strip, they are a lot of fun!

The handling is pretty impressive, and you can use them like a real truck if you want to. They can tow 5000 lbs!

I owned a 99 Lightning, and put about 12,000 miles on it as a dialy driver/weekend race toy. Despite what others say, the truck handles like a dream, and the braking is equally nice. A simple chip replacement wakes them up nicely.

The power of the new models is outstanding, and if I had a choice now that I have driven the Bullitt, I would prefer a 2002 Lightning.
