Shaker 1000 question

4102 Views 45 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  RCSignals
Hello all, I just picked up #4100 on Tuesday and was a little disappointed in how the radio sounded. I toggled through the menu and got everything set up, it sounded a little better. In the menu when I switch between the shaker on and off I do not hear any difference. Any ideas?
In the trunk you can get a feel of the Bass from the unit but not as much as I thought for the size of it. I'm guessing I have something set wrong or something isn't working.

Thanks,
Frank

Mine also has the shaker 1000. It does not do much till you crank up the volume. Also it makes lots of difference what kind of music you listen to. I like 60's and 70's stuff and most of it sounds crappy with not much bass. Kinda like it sounded in the 60's and 70's. LOL Fold the rear seats down and you will hear it better.
I'm glad that I opted for the extra trunk space.
My settings are
Shaker on, all seats, Base max, treble almost all the way up, 8 bars on the volume, on a cd is very nice!!!!!
It takes more power on a satellite radio & Ipod ! Fm is very good.
I hope this helps
Crank up the bass and you will hear the trunk unit.
Thanks for the replies, I will doulble check my settings.

Does anyone notice a difference, lets say at mid-volume, if you toggle between on and off on the Shaker setting?

Thanks,
Frank
not really?
Mine exited the trunk when I got it and sits in storage...500 is plently for me and my neighbors (however my kids disagree). Besides I needed the space and the weight reduction is amazing!
Mine works great, looks great too!

I have thought about this as well do you have any pics of the trunk with it out?

Me too, so it's just the 3 bolts and some kind of quick disconnect? Do you get errors on the head unit when you try to turn it on and it is not there? It does limit access to the 'spare tire' well. I don't even know what is in there! I hear it is a can of 'fix a flat!' I'll be calling AAA.
I had the Shaker 1000 in a 2005 Mustang GT and a 2008 Shelby GT500, only because it came with the cars.
I, too, don't notice any better sound, from the Shaker 1000, versus the Shaker 500.
I just took it out, feels like it weighs 30 lbs. There is no trunk mat where the sub unit was and now it looks as if something is missing... Not very pretty and the amps are still mounted on the side.
Doesn't look like a trunk mat will clear the amps.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you...I was going to post some pics but I'm too inept...Anyway I believe both the box and amp together weight close to 40lbs.

Probably already after the fact for you now but it causes no problem with the system. On the menue when it shows the option of "Shaker On" or "Shaker Off" it makes no difference. That was my main concern about taking it out. Before I did I consulted with the tech at the dealership and he said there would be no problem. I obviously took out the amps too with no issue.

As for the trunk liner...I had checked for getting a stock replacement and it was too cost pohibitive so I opted for the Ford Mustang rubber trunk mat with "Pony" and it covers the whole bottom and looks great for a whole lot less! I believe the mat was about $75 bucks.

I also have a trunk cargo net installed which I use all the time.

Another note...I had a Shaker 500 in my 07 and the 1000 without the box in the trunk still gives you more...plently for me anyway!

Someone suggested the 100 and 500 head units are actually the same, but that the 1000 aside from the rear amps and sub, has better rear speakers. So if that is the case it makes sense the 1000 even with the rear amps and sub removed sounds better.

It does sound good without the sub. I feel a bit silly taking it out, since it was an expensive option, but I can't see carrying around all the extra weight. I consider myself a victim of dealer ordered options. I hardly ever have have the radio on. I just listen the the exhaust and engine. I may drive to the coast next month and listen to the sat. on the way.
When the rebates where getting pulled I had a choice to make take a car with shaker 1000 and Sirius plus $1500 or wait for the car I ordered and loose this deal. I chose to get the shaker and the money. I have no regrets and plan on taking out the subs and amps once I get a spare tire.
I don't have any trouble telling whether the shaker is on or off. Maybe it's more what you listen to. FM doesn't go below 30hz anyway.
I can tell the diferance but I dont need all that base. Getting old I guess.
I don't know, it must be me, but toggling between shaker on or off makes no difference. I have the Bass at about 3/4, CD or radio or Sirius. I know it's just a factory stereo but honestly the factory radio in my GMC Sonoma sounded way better.

This radio sounds like it has no "depth"

I'd rather not change the head unit, but I'd change speakers if someone has a suggestion and as a last resort I'd think about a different head unit.

Otherwise, 4100 is an awesome car - runs great, and I'm just coming up to it's first oil change, I do them at 1000 miles.

Thanks,
Frank
