Thanks Karl.

Do you know how it would impact the overall drivability of the car. I am a bit concerned about water, dirt and if the "plumbing" for the air induction actually reduces the performance of the car.

I am going to use their base plate and duct,to make the factory Bullitt scoop functional. If I had a base GT,sure the whole Shaker setup would look and work well. But the Bullitt already has a decent scoop, why not improve on it.

Thank You.

I agree, making the stock scoop work may be the best idea. I can get a working scoop, without loosing the look that I like. Just go a bit caught up in the moment. The shaker looks like the same unit a buddy of mine had on his '70. The fad at the time were ugly "snorkels" and the shaker was a much cleaner look.

well this is just me, but i dont think i would spend $800 just for 2% hp increase, i mean it looks but dont think it's worth 8 bills

My issue has never been about the performance or collectability of the car. The performance of the car is fine. I just like stuff that works. Any non-functional extra bits on cars remind me of those "spoilers" people are putting on the trunks of corollas, Kia's et al. This is a hi-perf car and the "stuff" should work or not be stuck on. I think it cheap[ens the overall image of the car. Not as bad as those 5.0 - 135 horsepower TA's with the screaming chickens on the hood, but still could be improved. I wonder why Ford did not use the Cobra hood; it looks more like the '68.

While I agree with you about the fake scoops for the most part, let's not forget that back "in the day" most of the hood scoops were fake, too. Or at least on the base level musclecars. IIRC, even the hood scoop on the heralded first-generation Shelby Mustang was non-functional.
That 2% horsepower increase with the "Ram Air" is very debatable. Adding that many twists and turns to the air charge on its way to the MAF just might have the opposite effect that you're looking for. There's a ram air hood with snorkels on the leading edge of the hood (similar, somewhat, to the WS-6 'birds) that is probably the closest thing to well-functioning ram air for our cars. But to spend that kind of money for something with such a small increase in horsepower, if there's an increase at all.....well, there are lots better things to spend your money on. A cowl hood that will likely decrease underhood temperatures and possibly increase airflow through the cooling system is probably a better bet for a power increase.

That's the one I was talking about. I like that better than the others I've seen, though I like a tall cowl hood better. That one there looks like it's got a better chance of actually doing something positive for the engine than the ones that duct air four feet from the center of the hood to the airbox.

I also have a thing about functionality. I'd rather not have any scoop ... I did see the new Cobra at the Chicago auto show .. really like the looks of that hood. Will it fit on the bullitt?? .... is it available at the parts counter??

The Shakers weren't really that effective at grabbing air in 1969-70. I have a road test on a 1970 Boss 302,where the car picked up 1-2 MPH in the 1/4 mile while running with the complete assembly removed.....just the hole in the hood and the base plate,no filter.

Here's my .02$ on this topic. The fake scoop is sorta like fake titties. You know they're not real, but damit it, they often look better! As for the size used and there funtionality....., I'm not going there! For the Stang thou, I just can't justify all the extra plumbing needed to make it funtional and performance gains at lower speeds may actually be a loss. Love the visual feedback from a "shaker" system, but the engine mounted plumbing needed on an EFI system really ruin the engine view. The original Bullitt concept with the clean sides and hood has always been my favourite look.

You know,if they could figure out a way to put the MAF,behind the throttle body, you wouldn't need all that duct work. You could set it up on top of the engine, throttle body, and have the shaker hooked up like the old days.

Just speaking for myself, I HATE fake titties! The idea that a woman would go through that pain, expense and risk just make herself try to conform to what she thinks men appreciate is a concept that completely eludes me.
