Black Bullitt 783 is at a Chevy dealership here in the Kansas City area. I went and looked at her and I really got upset. From what I have found out the guy just simply didn't want and or couldn't afford the car anymore. So he sold it to the dealership. The passenger side skirt molding is off a standard GT, but still has the Bullitt side skirt on the drivers side. Looks awful! The guy also put an aftermarket alarm in it. And he has some really cheesy looking stickers above the GT badges on the sides that say "Bullitt." Of course the dealership didn't know a thing about Bullitts and the poor car is sitting outside and looks very dirty. I can see condensation in the tail lights, and the back window looks like it has a bad tint job on it. I didn't drive her but other than what I mentioned she looks good. Just really p*sses me off to see one of our cars, with only about 5,000 miles on it look so used. They are asking $26,000 for her. Please someone rescue 783!!

Not for 26K, that is more than I paid for mine with 13 miles on it. There is a dealer with two DHG Bullitts in College Station, TX with 3K miles (#02439)and 6K miles (#03613)on them in perfect condition and he is offering 22K for them. The guy seems really nice. His name is Richard Blue at 936-825-2225.

Hey KCBullitt, I live in Olathe and I too feel your pain for that poor, orphaned Bullitt. I've often wondered just how many Bullitt's were actually purchased by people who have absolutely no clue as to the heritage of the car and simply think of it as just another Mustang with a fancy gas cap cover. What Chevy dealership is it at? I've been trying to talk a friend of mine into a Bullitt (if he could find one reasonably priced). I would hope that even the Chevy dealership would have the sense to take it back to Ford to get the kick panel replaced with the proper one under warranty and have their body shop carefully remove any add on stickers!

1853 - I understand your point about not wanting to spend too much on a car. It just makes me sick to see one of our own looking like this.
Lt. - It is at Superior Chevrolet off Shawnee Mission Parkway. After I pointed out to the dealership that the side skirts were different they said that they would take care of it. I showed the salesman there all the things that make our cars different form other Mustangs. He was really impressed with all the little things that make our Bullits so special. Let me know if there is any other info you want.

I feel better knowing you set the sales guy at the Chevy dealership straight. I bought my 99 SS Camaro from Superior (the car I traded for the Bullitt)!

How did you get your front liscense plate to be the same color, style, and number from the original Bullitt movie car. Are you guys not required to have an actual front liscense plate?

They don't require front plates in Kansas, so it's really not a problem. There was an outfit out of Florida that makes duplication plates of just about anything you could want, so I had them make this up for the Bullitt; it just seemed better than most anything else I could come up with at the time. I've been driving my Bullitt since May of 01 and have not been stopped yet. I checked with one of our city municipal court judges and he didn't see any problem as long as I had the proper Kansas plate in the back. I live about 10 miles from the Missouri state line and they DO require front plates over there. Still, I drive over there very frequently and not a problem.... yet!

Lt. Bullitt - can you give us the ordering information on how to get a plate like that. I had the info. but not sure what I did with it. My car came with the dealer tag on the front and we don't even use front plates. So for now, I have the screws stuck back in there.

Thanks,

The custom license plate in the old California black/yellow style came from http://www.customlicenseplates.com Check out their site, they do nice work; takes about 2 weeks to get one.

I know I am going to be flamed for saying this, but it really is upsetting to see the number of people who have cosmetically changed their Bullitts, and to me NOT ONE so far from those that I have seen has been for the better...with the addittion of a spoiler ranking up there as one of if not the worse. Go ahead flame away...I asked for it !

I know what you are saying Kat. I think our bullitts look perfect the way they are. That is the main reason I bought one. Because I think it is the best looking mustang ever built by ford. But I can also understand the people wanting there car to look "one of a kind." I think that is very cool too. But for me, my Bullitt will remain looking the way it is...

I guess everyone will have their own opinion about mods, but to me, the only things I would consider are for what's going on under the hood. I love the bone stock look!

PonyXTC, my fake old style California plate is not registered (no stickers) and in fact, is a product that is made of 3 seperate layers; a black background, a plastic sheet of the letters & numbers and then a bubble like plastic cover and frame. I don't really consider that to be a mod!! LOL.

Kat

I am not much for external mods on the bullitt aside from the flashier chrome bullitt wheels. Then again I think regular mustangs that don't have a personal touch are behind the times. The mustang is the most modified car produced. It is a car that reflects the driver. If you are a drab person at heart, by a minivan. Owning a mustang just says something about the driver (not all, since there are people out there that don't even really know they own a mustang, it is just a car to them)

It is a tough call for this car, almost everyone loves how the car looks stock, but they (like me) wanted to make it a little more "them." The only mods I have done are the splash guards & cleartastic to protect the rear bumper panel area, the spacers for a tad more aggressive look and the chrome bullitt wheels because black cars just (in my opinion) look better with flashier chrome wheels to offset the dark color. (Less is best, the best mods don't scream hello) Oh, the tinted windows just help to protect the inside, that dang brushed ball gets friggin hot if the sun gets on it.

I do see your point, there are some mods that go too far. Huge whale fin spoilers, they go away from the intent. But the way I see it, if you spend 27K on a car, you have just earned the right to do what ever floats your boat to it. It doesn't matter if I like it or hate it, that is your right. I will just smile and say nothing if I don't like what they did to it.

Hey PonyXTC, I'm kind of a goof when it comes to trivia things. I really didn't catch the California plate number until I got my DVD version of Bullitt and just thought that might be fun to slap on the front of the car. I've got another one on the front of my '88 5.0 GT that inquires "GOT GAS?". Seems that one is always attached to the gas pump!
