So I got this ticket, 47 in 30. I thought the speed limit was 40 and didn’t realize I was even going or even sure I was even going that fast. The motorcycle cop using what looks like starwars binoculars with a laser radar built into them. Clocked me at 47. I was on a side road, just off SR20, not a neighborhood road, at the casino/twin bridges area heading east away from Anacortes, WA. $195.00.

He give me ticket and tells me if I pay the ticket within 15 days it want go on my driving record or be reported to my insurance.

However, I couldn’t not find that in writing anywhere on the ticket. At first I was just going to pay it. But I wouldn’t want to find out later on that it was a BS lie just to get me to pay the fine, no questions asked. The last few tickets I’ve received I was able to get the judge to lower the fine, and those were all under $100.00.

Any one know if the officer was telling the truth?

Thanks,
Don

well....one thing I do know from all the travels I have done across the states and through numerous reservations...is that they can pretty much set their own laws.
So...not know if what he told you or not is true, but, it might be possible that they don't provide any formal notification.

I was driving through Idaho, I had just come over the pass from Jackson Hole, Wy ... and I was probably doing about 70. Didn't see the cop coming towards me, until it was too late.
She flipped a u-turn and pulled me over.
First thing she asked me was if I had ever been to this area before (probably noticing my California plates). I said yes, 5 years ago.
Apparently, the speed limit on that stretch USED to be 70, but had been dropped recently to 55.
She gave me a ticket, but told me if I paid it within 29 days, it wouldn't hit my driving record nor my insurance.
I didn't question her (as you are ) and paid it as soon as I got home.
It never hit my driving record nor my insurance!

Don,
I'm curious, I live on San Juan Island and of course know the area quite well. Were you on the indian reservation receiving the ticket from a Indian Cop? I'm wondering why a County Deputy or State Patrolman would be on the reservation and be doing traffic enforcement. I would assume the Reservation wouldn't especially welcome such traffic enforcement. I do know that the Highway in this area is routinely monitored by the Sheriff's Department and the State Patrol. They are routinely visible parked just off the roadway near the Casino working radar.

Hey Joe,

I’m pretty sure I was on the reservation. I had just filled up at the Chevron Station there at the Twin Bridge Marina. I was on the access road with the traffic circle heading back to 20 to go east towards Burlington. He waved me down. You should know the area.
The usual spot for them is just past the bridge heading west. I just didn’t expect him to be on the access road. Never seen him there before and I have lived in Oak Harbor since 2001.

Hey Vicki,

Well, I didn’t question him there on the spot and I did pay the ticket.
