I got a call from my neighbor this morning telling me that his car club rented out US41 Dragstrip today and I was welcome to come along.. Well Sheeeeit! I jumped at the chance to get to a strip for the first time in my life. $20 and I could run all day long.. well at least until 4pm anyhow. I was told that I didn't do that bad and everybody was complaining about the track so I feel I did ok.. I'll post my times here in a minute of 2...

Here are my times. 87 Degrees, don’t know the humidity and the
Track is 662 ft above sea level.. for whatever reason that’s important.

ET-----60 ft----1/8 et/mph-------1/4 et/mph
1.140---2.35----9.50/77.17-------14.53/97.99
1.282---2.28----9.33/77.99-------14.34/98.49
0.870---2.30----9.36/78.10-------14.35/99.03
1.212---2.34----9.41/78.13-------14.40/98.92
0.972---2.38----9.56/77.29-------14.59/98.29
0.818---2.35----9.54/76.78-------14.58/98.24
Now I get a little instruction from the guy running
the 9 second Nova on how I should time the lights.
0.697---2.68----9.88/77.72-------14.89/98.21
0.630---2.56----9.86/77.44-------14.89/98.07
0.740---2.24----9.24/78.14-------14.23/98.89
0.622---2.20----9.20/78.28-------14.18/99.07 I snuck the ’01 Z28 on this run
0.774---2.06----9.00/78.55------14.005/98.46 here too.
0.715---2.12----9.07/78.55-------14.05/98.82
0.568---2.09----9.12/77.82-------14.12/98.73
0.464---2.18----9.26/77.57-------14.27/98.51 Red lighted.. DRAT!!
0.688---2.49----9.82/77.05-------14.87/97.99
0.698---2.14----9.21/77.43-------14.23/98.42
0.473---2.34----9.27/78.55-------14.24/99.07 Red lighted AGAIN!!
0.865---2.25----9.19/78.13-------14.18/98.67
0.834---2.32----9.26/78.23-------14.25/98.92

Now I was told that I did really good today but I’m not sure. I’m kinda disappointed as my goal
was to either break 100 in the trap or hit a 13.
Now the guy in the Camaro had a ’01 Z28 with headers, airbox mod, Cam and a
Computer chip. He ran a best against me of 13.6 @ 104. But I was able to sneak
Him a couple times  . Everybody there was complaining that the track was
Really slick. I couldn’t launch at over 2500 or I’d spin ‘em all the way into
Second. I’m sure I’ll go back again someday but I was kinda discouraged today.
I’ve never done this before (at a legitimate track) and was expecting more I guess. I thought I’d share this with
you guys though so some of you more experienced types could tell me what you think.

Good times BlakWing! Were you shifting to 4th gear on those runs,or charging to the finish in third. Going into 4th has shown no improvement on my car. Yeah,I know all about the slick track! Kinda makes you mad, when you know it is capable of a 13 sec. run. I say let's put the timing equipment on the street! You definitely got your money's worth of runs there!!

And when heading out to the show tonight what do I find? MORE timeslips!!.. How could I have missed these? Especially my very first run on a track..
1.447---2.20--9.40/72.57---14.661/57.04 Maybe I should’ve ASKED where the track ended instead of braking before I get there.. DOH!!

1.144---2.38—-9.54/77.08---14.59/97.56
1.140---2.35—-9.50/77.17---14.53/97.99
1.282---2.28—-9.33/77.99---14.34/98.49
0.870---2.30—-9.36/78.10---14.35/99.03
1.212---2.34—-9.41/78.13---14.40/98.92

These were my first timeslips for the day. I guess I shouldn’t be too upset. I did do well considering the track conditions. I was talking with a few of the guys who invited me and they have a rail that they raced there. They’re usually putting down low 9’s high 8’s and they couldn’t get under 10 today. So I guess the track really was crappy. The thing is they “Fixed it” halfway through the day. I was leaving at 3500 initially and the tires would spin for about 10ft then hook hard and the car would bog then take off. This happened most of the morning. I really didn’t want to launch too hard.. because. Well.. I never did that before. The guys with the Nova told me to tach it up to about 4500/5000 then dump it on the launch and it should boogie out.. well this advice came just as they “Fixed” the track with water and scrubbers I think. Well right after that is when I found I couldn’t launch over 2000 anymore without mondo wheelspin. I even got a nasty scare with the back end trying to come around during the second gear shift. I ran all the way out and crossed the finish line in 3rd gear every time. I made all my shifts around 5800/6000 and upon reflection I did have an absolute BLAST!!! The only bummer was coming home and having to scrape all that rubber off my rear fascia!

Ahhh, you need to get some Geddex Burnout Guard  I haven't got a chance to try it out, but I heard it works well. Larry(Geddex founder) sent me a couple of cans when I bought a used Lakewood Bellhousing from him.
