Well, I toned down my comments on gas prices once I saw what they were in 1929 while watchingthe History Channel (pre stock market crash). A gallon of gas was roughly .25, which works out to about $2.50 a gallon in 2002 prices.

An over-simplification, but it made me think.

I've got to fill up at lunch so I will see what the Texas taxes are. I lived in England from '80-'82. The British Pound was $2.40 and a Liter of Petrol was 1.3 Pounds, so I don't complain.

Just think, we pay upto $3.00 for gallon on milk and $1.00 for a pint of water at the local Stop & Go or 7-11. Gas is cheap compared to other liquids.

Well after I did a little research this is what I found "As much as 50 cents -- or 43% -- of the cost of a gallon of gas purchased in Florida can be attributable to federal, state and local taxes" ---- Kinda sorry I asked

Up here in the still somewhat frozen north of Canada we pay, in Saskatchewan, $.62/litre or about $2.35 per US Gallon. In US dollars this is about 25 cents..

While working in a service station during my highschool days I found out that just over 50% of our fuel costs are taxes, both federal and provincial.

This may have changed in the past few years as taxes only seem to go up accordingly with the price of fuel.

Just my 2 cents worth
