Looks like 2021 is in for the first leg to likely 2-3 days. Will be in Detriot for a mod stop on the way arriving in Chicago Friday night. IF there is any drag racing to be had in Cali, 2021 will be loaded on a rail car to meet us there. :D

Legend Lives Tour web site?

Sorry I've been "off site" so much lately. Doing a lot of work so I can make some money in 2012.

Question: Does the Legend Lives Tour have a web site? I've got some people I want to tell about it, but I can't send them to an IMBOC thread.

Who these people are is a secret for now, but I really can't talk to them without a web site.

Thanks for the help!

Question for the Legend lives committee

This once in a lifetime trip will take place during the Memorial day weekend and the monday(May 28th)when communities normally observe Ceremonies/Parades and dedications for those of our veterans who made the supreme sacrifice.

My question is this: Will there be time allowed for us as a group to pause and remember our fallen servicemembers? Or will we be on our own as individuals to find a communitys scheduled observance to attend?

I, as a veteran, see Memorial day as a day of rememberence and reflection for those we owe a debt we are unable to pay...and as such I want to see if our trip schedule allows time for us to pay our respects.

Will,
Daily activities and specific 66 tourist stops are still down the list from what we are working on now. Only at a draft high level view.
But, Monday Memorial Day presents several issues for us, not only for what you speak, but also relative to certain places possibly being closed!
Inquiries are being made as such to seek opportunities, as example, we wanted to stop in Adrian TX at the Midpointe cafe, and looking to see if they could open for us for an hour or so. Given uncertainties, that day is currently an open book, other than one specific highlight we are planning.
But, the other issue is that in a week run, every day will be extensive, long days, and only offering limited time per any given stop to manage to 10-12 hr days.
Will we as organizers offer some attribute of observance and respect? Certainly.
Can we spend significant time focused on Memorial Day, or, observing at some location for a significant time? Realistically, no.
But can we spend SOME time paying our respects at some celebration? Possibly!

A couple things do lend themselves to your concern/request...
We may be able to synch up our timing/path with some celebration
Secondly, we do not yet know the size of our event, may be minimal, it may grow to significant numbers. Bullitts will not be the only participants. As such, to manage logistics, we are anticipating having to plan for split schedules, and, split options to drive one group to one stop and the another group somewhere else. As such, one of the many schedule/stop options could be a specific stop for a Memorial observance.

Monday would be the Oklahoma to Tucumcari NM segment. We are currently planning an hour or two stop in Amarillo TX offering two main options late afternoon.

Maybe you could come up with a third option in Amarillo?? Or, in keeping with split schedules, maybe you may know of or could research some place enroute between OK and NM that could provide participants with an option? We are certainly open to suggestions! The evening event at our stopping point (Tucumcari) is another option for us relative to what we do that night. It really is just a matter of trying to fit multiple options into the schedule and fitting them into time and place.

But, please let us know if you have an suggestions...

Kurt,

Thanks for a well thought out answer to my question. I well understand how many other variables are still being considered by the planning committee, and that the concerns regarding business closings for Memorial day could impact those participating in the Legend Lives Tour moreso than the observances will.

You asked if I had a suggestion on how we can observe Memorial day...well, I would not want to saddle the schedule with a stop that may or may not be suitable to all participating. Maybe just simply pulling over to the side of the road at 11am local time and take a minute of silence for those who gave all for us? This could be done for those traveling in packs or single cars.

I will look into what Amarillo Texas has planned as that seems to be the largest city that our crew will likely be stopping at...I believe thats where the 72oz 'free' steak dinner is (free only if completely consumed, side dishes too).

If nothing else suits us during the day or at 11am...we can always gather up and remember our Fallen when we get to Tucumcari NM.

sorry for the dumb question, but do you have a blow-up (larger) map of your sig Kurt? We are trying to schedule our driving tonight!! A larger map would be awesome!

Not a dumb question, but, not sure I understand your request....

as for map, no, it was scanned off an equally small file, so, the sig map serves no purpose beyond a generic pictorial of Rte 66...

As for your need re scheduling, what exactly are you looking for? More details regarding the actual path, our meet/stop points for the tour as to where you can meet us...or...?

stop points, places to possibly meet/hook up with other B heads.
We will be on a tighter schedule as we both still work (darn it) so our trip will be more miles per day that the official schedule. But we will try to meet up with some of you somewhere!!!!! I have a couple pretty good Rt 66 books, and ordered a map of interesting sights on Amazon. So.... we are just going to wing it a bit!

Jim,
The detailed schedule is not set in concrete; actual daily tourist stops are still being decided based upon priority, opportunity vs time schedule.

But, the daily structure relative to start/end points is set as:

Saturday May 26: Chicago Il - Pacific Mo
Sunday May 27: Pacific - Yukon OK
Monday May 28: Yukon - Tucumcari NM
Tuesday May 29: Tucumcari - Holbrook, AZ
Wednesday May 30: Holbrook - Las Vegas
Tursday May 31: remain in Las Vegas
Friday June 1: Las Vegas - Chino Hills, CA
Saturday June 2: Chino Hills

Generically, given the above, hopefully will give you a better view as to where we may be in the course of any given day...

stay tuned as more info will be forthcoming as plans are solidified...
hotel contracts are nearly finalized, and we anticipate registration to be opened up by first of the year, based on expected completion of our incorporation as a 501/3/c non profit by then.

Kurt, this looks like a good plan. Using the given destination/date and later, info re; lodging and route the body of the tour will be using...anyone driving from anywhere within the continental North American land mass will be able to figure how to meet the group along the road.

BZ! you guys planning this rock. Extra raisin pie for the committee!

I too am one to participate in Memorial Day services. Actually wondering if I can maintain that personal obligation and then maybe can catch up to the group in LV to join the last leg. I am of course in for the first leg, would return home when you head to Yukon. Decisions, decisions. Will, maybe we travel together?

Ok, so maybe someone else may have mentioned this, but eats will be a requirement. Didn't Guy Fieri do a route 66 triple D series of shows? He's a car guy (no pun intended), maybe we can get some help laying out some hot spots along the route?????
