Getting 373 back together and have read many different speculations on fluid and capacity for our tr3650. So what are you guys running? Looks like the majority of mustang owners are putting 3.2 quarts in but what type of fluid should I use? Any help is appreciated. No noticeable grinds but in all honestly I didnt get to drive her much before the engine locked up :( Thanks everyone :dhg01:

I use 3.2 quarts and used Amsoil because I had it in my garage from my 4x4 days. Very good stuff, but I would have used Mobil 1 ATF if I didn't have Amsoil stock piled.:smile: With the Amsoil, I have not had the notchy, finnicky shifting that I was starting to experience around 40K miles... 58K on #4683 now and no issues whatsoever.

Not true about synthetic.

3.2 quarts is mandatory.

I have Amsoil in 736. Previous was Mobil 1 and RP. I didn't like the RP (noisy). 145k miles on the car and never a problem

I have Ford Mercon V in 810. 42k miles and shifts like butter.

^Charles- I know but still hard to believe it uses auto trans fluid in a manual. Old School thinking I guess. Thinking why even though mine shifts OK, it makes noises I don't like in 1st gear. I don't really know what's in it may be OE :indiffer: about TR3650

Wish i could experience smooth shifts, but the damn rear tranny seal keeps crapping out and leaking fluid everywhere lol :p

Thanx!! sure did, I tried about everything out there. even the ones some people swore by and Amsoil hands down was the best in mine.

Did you feel like there was any noticeable difference between Mobile1 and the Amsoil?

I have Mobile1 now, but I'd drain and replace it in a moment if Amsoil is really better.

Many people on this forum (and other forums) have had luck with Amsoil. I tried using it, but it actually made my 3650 shift worse. After reading a few threads on different sites I decided to try Dexron III/Mercon (Valvoline). This is a non-synthetic fluid as recommended in Ford's TSB. Since the switch my transmission is much, much happier.

I have had, Mobil1, Redline Manual, Redline AT, Amsoil AT, Amsoil with Lucas, Dexron III (Havoline I think it was) and Amsoil LV

The lower fill level of 3.2 quarts compared to the factory 4 qts will make more improvement than the brand. With that said because the tranny gets better when warm and the fluid is thinner I went with the thinnest possible and did notice a slight improvment using the Amsoil LV compared to the regular Amsoil AT that I had in it before.

Based on my Ford mechanic's recommendation (he's a transmission specialist) I switched to GM Syncromesh. It's all he uses and I've been very happy with the shifting since changing the fluid.

Pennzoil syncromesh is an oil not an ATF. Heck I'm using that in my manual tranny Dakota, which requires 5w-30 motor oil.

In my Bullitt I'm using regular Mobil 1 ATF non synthetic and it shifts great!!

For the '08 owners, no second gear grind.

For the '01 owners, no third gear grind.

I've been lucky with both '01 transmissions. The RP was a little noise and notchy but never any problems otherwise.

The '08 occasionally had the third gear grind when cold. I just made sure I let it warm up a little and shifted easy.
