Redline A4 DTF improved the shifting in my replacement transmission (which did not grind like the original). There is probably a limit to the improvement based on how far out of spec the transmission is at the time the improved fluids are used.
If the transmission is "notchy", but not grinding, then Redline can help to improve shifting to the point of "butter". Mine's still notchy 2-3 sometimes, but acceptable.
The old transmission was so far out of spec that it would grind from 1-2 and sometimes pop out of gear. The old transmission also felt looser. They rebuilt it and there was no difference (the clunk was fixed, but not the grind, and it started leaking).
The replacement transmission works good enough, although not as smooth as my wife's 2002 Mazda Protege's (which has much lower stress requirements). Tremec transmissions are used in all domestic high-perf sports cars, and there is certainly some build variance. If you want one that doesn't grind, keep taking it back until they get it right. Grinding is never normal, and will result in accelerated synchro, bearing, and gear wear.
