well the saga continues...first had clutch assembly replaced to fix clutch/tranny noise.push clutch pedal in, noise goes away, let pedal out, noise returns....didnt fix anything.took bullitt to another dealer and they called factory.....factory wants tranny out of car and opened up, and then a phone call to them, so they can tell mechanic some things to check....yikes.....its scary......noise sounds like throwout bearing going out,but its not the problem....really loud high pitched sound when cold started....noise lessens after car warms up but it never goes away.....ill keep everyone posted...might get car back after the weekend......

My Bullitt is in the shop right now for the tranny as well. I had the 1 - 2 shift fork replaced back in November. I want the tranny replaced now. I'll take my changes on a new one. While it is in the shop it will get a new drivers side headlight for the sixth time. The front brakes will be checked out for squealing as well.

My service advisor just called. New tranny on order. I'm having them put in a heavy duty throwout bearing while it is out.

Pilot bearing will cause that type of noise, any skilled technician should know that. With the clutch depressed the input shaft should remain almost motionless and when released spin at the same speed as the crankshaft. The pilot bearing is pressed into the rear of the crankshaft and supports the input shaft of the transmission. I have always replaced the pilot bearing anytime the transmission or engine have been removed on a manual trans. vehicle.

Well I'm back in town and my car isn't ready. They expect the new tranny to arrive today. On the throwout bearing Ford doesn't have a heavy duty one. However, they offered to install a HD Motorsports clutch kit which I believe is the King Cobra clutch for $250 plus an additional $70 while the tranny is out. I am thinking about it. That bearing is ticking lightly and I know in time it will have to be torn apart again. I can't stand the thought of the car going in 3 times to have the tranny pulled.

i hear ya....mine has been out twice now and parts are on order as we speak.....tech found worn races and bearings. he has ordered various gears and races....didnt no these gears needed races...anyways...when they get it back togethor....i will ask for gm syncromesh....but i doubt they will put it in. probably get mercon 5. tech said he found discoloration on some of the gears...sure sounds like poor lubrication when its cold....cant wait for the test drive...cross your fingers

Why me? Service advisor just called. Parts department guy just told him that he signed for two trannys but only one was there when they actually looked. They have to give the one they have in hand to another customer who was before me. So now the parts manager is doing battle with the shipper. How is he going to prove he got only one tranny while signing for two? I think I am going to be without a car for another week. BTW...I am having the King Cobra clutch kit put in for $320 parts and labor. I hate to spend the money but I hate the thought of pulling that tranny out again a few months down the road for a ticking throwout bearing.

I just got # 289 back from the dealer with a tranny rebuild. Same as you, forks, seals, syncros, output shaft, etc. I'm still concerned because the 1 - 2 shift is still not right. I'm worried that I may still have issues with the car and like some of you, need to have the tranny replaced.

I guess that these transmissions where not included as part of Job 1

289, that's exactly why I insisted on a factory tranny this time. I gave them one chance to rebuild it right. If I still have a problem with the new tranny they are going to keep putting in new factory trannys until it is perfect.

I went through the same thing: rebuild, leak+(still problematic), replace. The new replacement is working OK so far (currently using Redline D4 ATF). I had my mechanic check their work afterwords, and he said it looked good.

3855 going back to dealer. they are going to call factory rep or factory back and request a new tranny. i really dont understand why they cant just order new one. with all the trouble ford is in right now financially, maybe procedures are tightening up. sure sounds like another long drawn out dealer visit. taking it in on monday....i'll write a post as soon as i hear something.
