I had mine dyno'd bout 2 weeks ago, and the tech said figure 18% for drive train loss. Since then I been told and read in car magazines that 15-18% is what should be figured for a 5-speed. At this point, I say use which ever of those figures gives you the best flywheel HP!

Forgive me, but what can we do to get the lost HP as a result of the 5 speed drivetrain?

The manual transmission consumes less hp than an automatic. If I am reading your question correctly, the only way to get back all of the lost hp is to get rid of the drivetrain. Now that would cause a few drivability issues. Another way would be to decrease drivetrain losses (because you can't avoid them). That is one reason for using an Al driveshaft.
