I was on the DMV website today and saw this:

Evidently the state has developed this program to get vintage-look plates for any year vehicle. You can get gold/black, black/gold, or blue/gold, personalized or sequential for $50. If the program gets 7500 pre-paid applications before January 2015, the program goes forward. If not, you get your money back, assuming the state hasn't gone broke and spent it by then.

Well, Suzanne got a call back from DMV yesterday (Saturday no less!) on her applications. Seems both the plate numbers she applied for are still in the system so can't be reissued. Cool 'cause that means that her two previous Mustangs may still be in existence but bad 'cause we really wanted that '67 number combo for the B. I know you can order sequential plates but we really want to end up with a combo that was originally issued from '67 or '68 and will have to find out if there is some way to pick from a list of "open" plates within that range.

Has anyone else who's applied to this program heard back from the DMV yet?
I submitted my plate requests back in lat December and still haven't heard anything

Need 7500 preorders before Jan 2015. See first post with link.

I figured 7500 shouldn't be a problem for the whole state of CA

Great news! Perhaps DMV meet their quota. What letters or numbers did you pick?

I put down 3 different options, and the one that was stamped on the back of the check near the endorsement line was MSTGFRK (Mustang Freak) so im assuming thats the one that was approved so i think i'll be putting that plate on my 67 mustang

I was checking today on whether they'd announced they were starting development, and they've reworded the requirement for implementation. It now says, "Legislation introduced the California Legacy License Plate program offering vehicle owners the opportunity to purchase replicas of California license plates similar to those issued in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. In order for the program to be implemented, at least one of the three styles must receive 7,500 orders before January 1, 2015." It didn't say that before. So, if I'm reading this correctly, we need 2,259 more people to sign up for black and gold plates. Damn, I thought we were there!
So, anyone thinking about these, sign up!

You are right, it never said any of that the first time around, the word is out, I really hope this goes into production.

Made it! Black and Gold should start development now. Not sure the others are going to make it...

From the website:
"Legislation introduced the California Legacy License Plate program offering vehicle owners the opportunity to purchase replicas of California license plates similar to those issued in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Only the plate or plates that reach 7,500 orders before January 1, 2015 will be implemented."

Great to hear Jim, thanks for keeping us in the loop
Very cool Jim, thank you for keeping us all in the loop all this time.
Casey, if you have your cancelled check or can get a photocopy of the back, they have been writing the plate they allotted to you on the back of your check.
That's right, you beat me to it Jim
