Want black and gold license plates?

I was on the DMV website today and saw this:

Evidently the state has developed this program to get vintage-look plates for any year vehicle. You can get gold/black, black/gold, or blue/gold, personalized or sequential for $50. If the program gets 7500 pre-paid applications before January 2015, the program goes forward. If not, you get your money back, assuming the state hasn't gone broke and spent it by then.

I have to assume you've already pre-ordered JJZ 109.
Part of the fine print is it can't conflict with an existing license plate series currently issued, so I'm assuming that plate won't be available. But that doesn't mean I haven't tried:smile:
As of now they say they have 4,072 approved applications. We're over halfway there!

Or .. you cn get an EXACT 1968 replica from Licenseplates.tv.
Actually, that's a little tricky. I actually have one from them, but we had to have a friend in another state order it and then send it to us, because they won't or can't sell California plates in California. When I go on their website, California doesn't even show up on the list of States. And the plates still aren't street legal...
Now at 5,242 approved applications - 2/3 of the number needed for the program to go ahead...

Thinking of getting some for our 68 Mustang......
Sounds like a good idea, Frank!

They only need 333 more pre-orders and the program goes forward...

Made it! The program should go into development now...
<a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/user/envin_yatar/media/LegacyPlates_totals7_zps382934c4.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/envin_yatar/LegacyPlates_totals7_zps382934c4.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo LegacyPlates_totals7_zps382934c4.jpg"/></a>
I was checking today on whether they'd announced they were starting development, and they've reworded the requirement for implementation. It now says, "Legislation introduced the California Legacy License Plate program offering vehicle owners the opportunity to purchase replicas of California license plates similar to those issued in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. In order for the program to be implemented, at least one of the three styles must receive 7,500 orders before January 1, 2015." It didn't say that before. So, if I'm reading this correctly, we need 2,259 more people to sign up for black and gold plates. Damn, I thought we were there!
So, anyone thinking about these, sign up!
