The spots on the inside of the light lens, What do they look like? Are they discolorations or are they water rings etc..? I have noticed some hazing and discoloration on both of my light lenses. Should I take it back to the dealer before the thirty day check up? What would you guys/girls do?

DHG#4500: Yes, take it back to dealer and ask them to swap with another Gt's lenses. Chances are if they re-order some they will too come in spotted. We have had them order 3 sets and all came in spotted! Bill goes in today to get the power steering unit replaced and to swap lenses with a Black Bullitt on the showroom floor. With our luck, he says that the Bullitt probably sold within the last week!

Count me in with water spots under the plastic in the head lights - dealer is ordering two new lights.

And here I though I was unscathed by this. I remember actually havig Water drops (Condesation) inside my tailights and I thought that's what you guys were referring to. Well Count me in. My Passenger side light has these spots in them. I noticed while cleaning my bug collection off the front of my car.
However from what I've seen they could be MUUUCCHH worse. I stopped by Nives/Rizza Ford in Orland where they have a Black Bullitt for sale and took a look at it's lights and they were HORRIBLE! You could see all the spotting on both lights from over 7 ft away. It covered the entire lens. Mine are just a couple small spots near the turn signal.

Sigh... I thought I had gotten lucky. So far I haven't had a single one of the defects that people have complained of. Not even paint blemishes. I THOUGHT I had already checked for the blemishes and been OK. Apparently the light just wasn't right.

However, depending on how picky I want to be, I have it on at least one, and really both lenses.

My question: Just how ready for a fight do I need to be? I cannot go to the dealer I purchased the car from due to the fact that it is 7 hours away. (Well, OK, I COULD, but I don't really want to make the drive for what should be an easy warranty fix.) I've had nothing but negative experiences with dealers in my area the past couple of years, and I am going to try a new one in the area for this. Should I walk in armed with a printed copy of one of the headlight threads from here? Will it matter if I do? I'm a big believer in catching more flies with honey than vinegar, but honey hasn't been working well lately.

Thanks,
Joe

Bring it up to the dealer you have the car serviced. Don't make it -the- reason for going to the shop.

I'm new to Ford, but (I suppose, and the rest is based on other manufacturers) any warranty work is paid for my Ford, not the dealer. The only sticking point may be if it takes the tech 5 hours to change a light, he'll only get paid what Ford says its worth and that may be 1 hour.

Only the passenger side headlight is spotted on mine, dealer ordered it yesterday. Hope they don't come in spotted. They'll install it when I go back to get my hood aligned.

Hmmm, maybe you should trade the Cobra R lights with the Bullitts and take the Bullitt back in to get them replaced again. Kidding... that just wouldn't be right.

Vicki, no need to worry about the "Rs" lights, that huge grin with the big glare off Bill's teeth will suffice I'm sure.

I just found out about this site last night and realized I wasn't alone with the waterspots inside the headlamps. Took mine to the dealer today and they ordered new glass. I hope it doesn't take three tries to get it corrected.

I got excellent information from http://flatratetech.com site concerning this headlamp problem:

Special Service Message 15283 under category 201200 Exterior Lighting:
"Some 2001 Mustangs built from Job #1 through 081501 may exhibit a fogging condition which is usually described as condensation/waterspotting inside the headlamps. A revised headlamp has been released to service this condition. Part numbers:1R3Z-13008-AC-right lamp and 1R3Z-13008-AD-left headlamp".

Give this information to the dealer service order writer and this will make sure that the replacement headlamps will not have the same trouble.

If there are any questions--email me.
