It's looking more and more like widening the stock wheels is going to prove problematic, soooo I am considering something like this. They come in 17x8 and 17x11, just the sizes I need. Any opinions welcome.

I haven't scoped out a dealer yet. I have a few friends in the aftermarket so I hope to not pay retail, but...you never know.

17x8=$406
17x11=$444

I would like to get rims and tires for under $2k. [crosses fingers]

Those wheel look good. As a side note American racing has some Torq-Thrust II wheels in the sizes that your looking for. Here is a link.

There's a guy here locally that has them. They look pretty nice, but I've never wanted to see my twin at a stoplight. And retail to retail they are only $100 less per wheel. Boyd Coddington vs. American Racing...hmmmm I guess I gotta be different.:smile:

If you're talking about spending over $1600 on wheels, what kind of tires do you plan to buy for under $400 for the set of 4?

Tires are the single biggest performance improvement you can make to a car, so I'd be careful not to skimp on those!

Those are retail prices. I am hoping I can find a much better price than that. Pretty much no matter what rims I go with I am planning on BFG KDs(245/45-17) for the front and BFG DRs(315/35-17) for the rear. That puts me at around $1200 for the rims...if I can find them for that price.

The machine shops(local) that was talking to concerning this had worries about balancing after they weld on new backs. While they were committed to performing the widening, they wanted them to be right the first time. If someone has a connection anywhere that they trust to do this type of work I would be more than willing to contact them.
